A little note about work!
A Movie Review!
Then a survey!
Last night, after The Gang stopped in to Borders, Stacey and Scott came by. I helped them find a couple things and then went back to the main info desk to stand around some more. From the brief conversation Cherie (a co-worker) heard she could tell Stacey and I used to date. I found that amusing. She thought there was some hard feelings still, so she was wrong there (or at least I think she was). But I still found it amusing.
Libby came down to Grimes tonight and we headed to see The Producers starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Brodderick. I have to say first and foremost no one will ever play a better Leo Bloom than Gene Wilder. Can't be done. Furthermore, I found Brodderick's Bloom inconsistent and mildly annoying (in a noncharacter sense). Nathan Lane was quite good, though, and (although playing a different take on Max Bialystock) almost a perfect Zero Mostel.
The movie itself was an adaptation of the Broadway version of the play rather than a remake of the non-musical original film. There is a lot in the musical that gets left out or changed in the original movie. The songs are rather hilarious and one of the best parts of the film. Many complaints people have had of the film is that it is too theatre-y. I think thats the way it probably should be, really. It IS a Broadway Musical afterall. I'm having a hard time actually rating the film. I enjoyed it, yes, but much of my enjoyment came from the fact that I really liked the original. I liked Max but not Leo. Will Ferrel's character wasn't nearly as bad as I expected but still not great. The same goes for Uma Thurman (although I did warm up to her as her part went on). In the end I suppose I have to say I don't recommend it but I really wish I could.
