Part 1

Part 2

The school looked normal. Or at least Aya tried to convince herself.

"I shouldn't have asked sempai-tachi about the rumors..." She muttered.

Tanaka grinned at this. "What's this Shingai?? Afraid already??" He teased.

Aya glared at him.

"Well, come on." Yamamoto said. He, like Ryuu, thought that the rumors was just that: rumors.

Koseki and Ryuu opened the gates.

"Ladies first..." Tanaka said and even bowed a little, impersonating a gentleman.

"Who's afraid now?" Aya snorted at him but he just grinned.

"Juri likes a laugh, that guy." Ryuu told Kanon who was watching the two. "And Shingai gets easily worked up so she's his favorite target."

They stepped inside and went to the main building where, rumor has it, everything happened.

It was really dark then. It was very different from Horikoshi at day.

Tanaka opened the door to the building. The door creaked.

No one was there.

It was too quiet, it was unnerving.

With Yamamoto, Ryuu and Kanon right behind him leading, they entered the building.

There really was a different feel to the school. Kanon unconsciously grabbed onto Ryuu's sleeves.

Suddenly the door slammed shot. The three girls all screamed in fright.

But it was only Tanaka and Koseki.

"Relax, we just closed the door." Koseki said, chuckling a bit.

"And we just got here!" Tanaka teased, laughing out loud.

Chizu and Aya glared at them.

"Well, where do we go?" Yamamoto said, changing the subject. "Yukito?"

"Hmm, there's a rumor in the third floor staircase and the girls bathroom on the same floor." He said promptly.

Yamamoto nodded. "Come on then." He said.

They moved slowly. Nishii and Yamamoto was leading, behind them was Ryuu and the girls who seems to not want to let go of each other. At that very moment, they didn't really care much about being teased as a coward. Behind them was a silent Tanaka and Koseki.

They reached the landing to the stairs.

"It so dark." Kanon commented. "Can't we open the light?" She asked.

Before Tanaka could tease her, Ryuu had moved forward to the switch and clicked it.

Nothing happened.

"It's not working." Ryuu said. He had tried to open the light a few more times.

"Maybe they shut electricity off at night." Nishii said.

The others just nodded.

They started climbing the stairs with the boys using their phones as substitute light. The only thing they could hear was their own footsteps.

They reached the staircase to the third floor.

"Here?" Yamamoto asked Nishii.

"I think so." Nishii said, looking around.

They went silent as if waiting for something to happen.

A few seconds of just silence.

Chizu had sighed and smiled. It seems nothing would happen.

Suddenly something called touched her nape. Both Chizu and Aya screamed at the same time and scrambled away in panic.

Kanon had let out her own scream after them and had moved to Ryuu, closing her eyes. Ryutaro instinctively grab her too while the two girls had ran behind Yamamoto and Nishii.

Then, a burst of laughters.

Yamamoto lowered his hand which were shielding the girls.

It was only Tanaka and Koseki.

"You should have seen your faces!!!" Tanaka shriek with laughter.

"Priceless!" Koseki added.

Yamamoto shook his head in exasperation and tried turn to the girls but he couldn't. Chizu was holding the back of his shirt and had started crying.

"It's okay, it's only a joke." He told them gently.

He turned to the two boys who were still laughing. "Stop that." He said angrily.

"But it's so funny!" Tanaka said cheerfully but Koseki had stopped laughing.

Ryuu shook his head. "Really, Juri, that was unneccessary."

Chizu was still crying. Aya was trying to calm her.

"Chizu..." Yamamoto said, trying to soothe her. She was still clutching at his back.

Just then they heard a thud.

Everyone went silent.

Yamamoto and Ryuu looked at Tanaka and Juri again, half-hopeful.

Wide-eyed, they silently shook their heads. It wasn't them.

And then, there was music. A piano playing.

Kanon held onto Ryuu as Chizu did to both Yamamoto and Aya.

"Rumors says..." Nishii started, his voice very soft. "That at exactly 8 o'clock the piano to room 308 will start playing by itself."

They listened more.

It was definitely the piano.

"I'll go and check it." Yamamoto said with a shrug. He felt Chizu shook her head against his back.

"It'll be quick. It might just be a CD or something." He said confidently.

"Why don't we all go?" Ryuu suggested, to which Aya, Chizu and Kanon all shook their heads.

"I'll be fine." Yamamoto said. And he felt Chizu shake her head again.

"I... I'll go with you..." Chizu said, finally letting go of Yamamoto's back but grabbing his arm instead.

"I don't think that's a good idea." Yamamoto said.

"Yeah." Nishii agreed. "I'll go with him, if you like, so he wouldn't be alone." He offered.

Chizu shook her head. "I-I don't want to be left with these idiots..."

She said this but didn't looked at Tanaka or Koseki. The two boys had the grace to  look ashamed.

"Let her go." Ryuu said, shrugging. "I'm sure it's nothing." He said confidently.

Yamamoto frowned but nodded.

They all watched as the two started ascending the stairs.

"Wait." Nishii suddenly said in alarm, but the two had already gone.

"What is it?" Koseki asked quickly.

"It's just ten to 8. They said it's supposed to be at exactly 8." Nishii said in a confused tone.

"Eh?"

But before anyone could speak further they had heard a scream.

Chizu's scream.
All of them were stunned and automatically, the boys all went forward and ran up.

"Juri stay with the girls!" Ryuu ordered as he, Koseki and Nishii took flight up the stairs.

The three were left with their friend's fading footsteps and then...

Silence.

The three waited in complete silence.

They've waited and waited but no one was returning.

No sound of a single footstep or anything at all.

Suddenly, Juri looked up the stairs abruptly. His eyes widen. The girls moved closer to him.

"What is it?" Aya asked in a small voice. Kanon remained silent.

"Can you feel that?" He said in a mysterious voice.

"What??" Aya asked, fear in her voice.

"I love you."

Silence again and the girls looked at Juri. He burst out laughing.

Aya smacked him. "This is not a time for your jokes!!!" She said, frustrated.

"I just wanted you to be calm. You were very anxious earlier." He said, smiling gently now.

Kanon managed to smile at that. It did helped, she was a bit relaxed now.

"I'm sure they're fine, but they are taking a bit. Do you girls wanna go up as well? We shouldn't really have separated." He said with nonchalance

Kanon nodded at him. Aya frowned but also nodded and slowly, the three of them went up to the third floor.

It happened when they reached the last step.

Music.

The piano was playing again.

Aya checked her phone.

"It's exactly eight." She whispered.

"You know Chizu knows how to play. Maybe that's her." Juri said, ignoring what Aya said. The girls didn't reply and they continued on their way.

The music was growing louder as they went.

Kanon's heart was pounding. She was very scared. And she didn't know what happened to the others.

But when they arrived in front of room 308, where the piano is and where the music was loudest, the playing abruptly stopped.

They waited by the door for signs of their friends.

Nothing.

Finally, Juri moved forward and opened the door.

The moonlight was shining through the window so they could see the room clearly.

It was just their normal classroom. Very clean and very quiet. Nothing was amiss. The piano was there but properly covered.

Juri stepped in but Aya stopped him.

"They're not in there." She said. "Let's just look for them."

Juri nodded and again closed the door.

They started walking again.

Two steps and Kanon stopped.

She had heard something.

Someone was calling her.

'Ryuu.' she registered the voice and then she turned to room 308.

---

Koseki's eyes snapped opened.

He sat up, remembering the previous events.

His eyes widen. The last thing he remembered, he was with Yukito and Ryuu in front of room 308.

And then everything went black... and now he was looking right at their school bulletin board.

"Why am I in the first floor?"

And as another realization hit him, he stood up abruptly. 'Where's everyone??'

---

Ryuu helped Yukito stand up. He felt a bit disoriented.

He didn't know where they were. He had never been in that room before.

It was a sort of a dark room.

"Is this the School Newpaper club room?" Yukito asked out loud.

"Maybe." Ryuu said.

Yukito looked out the window, the only place where there was light.

"Ah, Ryuu..." He called, nervously.

"What is it?" Ryuu answered.

"How did we get on the fifth floor?" Yukito asked Ryuu nervously.

Ryuu's eyes widen and he looked out the window as well. Yukito was right. They were in the highest floor.

"I don't know..." He said grimly. "But we have to find the others."

---

"Here." Yamamoto said, passing Chizu a glass of water.

How they turned to be in the infirmary, they didn't really know but for now Yamamoto wanted Chizu to calm down.

Yamamoto frowned when he noticed her eyes. They were swollen.

"Are you okay?" He asked softly.

She nodded slowly. "Hai... I'll be fine. Arigatou, Ryo."

He smiled at her and ruffled her hair like he always does. He was the only one who could do that without annoying Chizu.

They had been friends even before they went to Horikoshi. Or more accurately, right before they went to Horikoshi. They met during their entrance exam. All applicants were assigneed to rooms randomly and it so happened that they were in the same room and sat besides each other.

They didn't really talk to each other at first, but then Ryo had  fallen asleep half-way through the test (no doubt because of exhaustion from work). Chizu, noticing this, had tried all means to wake him up without the proctor noticing. She had managed to do it after a few tries (she had threw him her eraser as a last resort). After the test, Ryo had approached her and thanked her. They had been friends since then.

Came their opening ceremony, it had been a comfort each to have someone they already knew. And even though it had just been months. they had become really close.

His hobby of ruffling her hair came from his fleeting comment, 'You're like a dog I need to take care of.'

This annoyed Chizu somewhat but at the same time, she was touched.

Chizu smiled at Ryo, feeling a bit better now.

"Ryo... we have to find the others." She said.

Ryo nodded. "I know. But let's rest here for a bit." He said. He didn't think it would be good for Chizu to move away from there just then.

---

"Tanaka!" Aya gasped.

Tanaka turned sharply. "What is it??"

"Kanon's gone!" She said, fear in her voice. "She's gone!"

She held onto Tanaka.

Tanaka looked around. Kanon was really nowhere to be seen.

"Where did she go?"

Aya shook her head, tears stinging her eyes. She couldn't understand what was happening. They should've never stepped inside the school. The rumors were true. There was definitely something there.

"Maybe she just got lost. It's her first time here." Tanaka said, seriously. "We have to continue looking."

Aya nodded, still scared. Tanaka raised a hand to her. She took it. They needed to stick together.

They moved through the third floor. They checked each room.

They couldn't find anyone.

They reached the last room to the west wing. Still no one.

"Let's go back." Tanaka said.

Aya nodded sadly. She was scared, she was worried and she just wanted to go home.

She looked back sharply. Something had caught her eyes.

"Wait." She said.

"What is it?" Tanaka asked.

He was surprised when Aya let go of his hand. She then walked inside the last room.

He followed her.

She went towards the blackboard. He watched.

She took something from the top of the blackboard.

"What is it?" Tanaka asked.

"A ring..." Aya breathed.

"Is it the time?" Tanaka asked, half-exasperated, half-exhausted.

But Aya didn't seem to hear him.

That's when he noticed that something seems to be wrong.

Aya's eyes were glossed, as if she was in a trance.

"It's so beautiful..."

---

Chizu dropped the glass at the sound.

Ryo stood in front of Chizu in alarm. Something was coming.

They heard footsteps. And then the door creaking slowly open.

Chizu held on Ryo. Ryo prepared for the worse.

"Hello?"

Chizu held her heart in relief. It was Koseki's voice.

"Yuta!" Ryo called.

---

Yukito and Ryuu searched for the door out. It was a bit of a clutter there with newspapers and other prints scattered around and with racks and bookshelves here and there. What's more, it was very dark in there and theiir phone's light weren't  helping very much.

Ryuu heard a thump and then things crashing on the floor. A groan, and he knew Yukito had bumped into a rack or something.

"Yuki, are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah." He heard Yukito's muffled voice.

Some more noises and then silence.

"Ryuu..." Yukito called again; now his voice clear.

"Yeah?" Ryuu asked.

"I found something." Yukito said.

Ryuu turned to his voice's direction and found Yuki's phone's light.

"What is it?" He asked, making his way to him.

Yukito showed it to him. It was a picture. A very old picture.

Ryuu's eyes widen.

"It's--" Yukito started but Ryuu finished it for him. "Kanon."

Yukito nodded grimly. "They look very much like Fukuda."

That was when they heard the piano again.
