I made one using Filemaker Pro for where I work. P.O.S., A/R, A/P, Inventory Control. Turned out to be easier for doing a customized business thing than a generic canned version.
We literally just bought POS•IM for our brand new Mac register system at my work. My dad has been using it for years at his own business, and after a handful of seminars and some careful review with the Apple Business Services at my local Apple Store, we made the plunge with some Minis and the packaged software. So far, we're all loving the experience. It's a modern system that's constantly being updated with more functionality than you'll ever need. They're open and scrutinizing about feedback, and the next version is set to be the best yet.
In-store training is minimal; set-up is easy. Depending on what you need for your store, I might recommend a bar-code printer and a hand scanner or two. Easily integrated with employee laptops, everything works with everything and there's room to adapt to your business needs.
I'll also be glad to try to answer any particular questions you might have. Hope this helps.
I work at a Mac store in the Phoenix area and we useLightSpeed for our POS. Multiple users, super-fast, tracks a million different things. Good stuff...
