Okay - so FIREFOX is the answer, not Mac or Windows.

I googled "submit firefox bugs" and got this. Honestly, I'd rather not see hearts anywhere, so my not seeing it on Firefox for Mac doesn't bother me a bit. :)

Are both your macs on the same exact version of the OS ? And are both browsers the same version of Firefox?

This is, unfortunately, a known bug in the Mac version of Mozilla's Gecko engine that's been around for a good while. From what I understand, the reason is apparently because, unlike all the other Mac browsers, Mozilla still doesn't use ATSUI (Apple Type Services for Unicode Imaging) for its text rendering, and that causes some problems with the default Japanese fonts used to render those extended characters.

Oh, and I forgot to link the Bugzilla bug for this:

Oh, and there's a temporary fix, though it's absolutely not obvious whatsoever: Set the default Japanese serif font in preferences to "MS P明朝" or "Osaka".

Wait - changing the default Japanese serif font will show me a heart in English code?

Are you SHITTING me??

I use Camino 1.0.2 and get a line. Same with Firefox 1.0.5, safari 2.0.4, Opera 9.01, and seamonkey 1.0.4 and get only the line
