Older cats often have kidney issues as well, which can cause several things, including confusion because toxins normally filtered out by the kidneys build-up, and the pee-ing thing could be that she drinks a lot therefore being old can't make it in time to the litterbox, or is too sore, tired to get there. Often cats retreat to a bathroom to do this because it is a water source and they can smell OUR pee. (even if we are the cleanest of clean).

Also Older cats get senile. It is entirely possible she just forgets where the litterbox is. Also, Kidney disease of renal problems don't always show-up in Hyperthyroid cats because of the increased blood pressure from being hyperthyroid, it increases the profusion of blood being filtered through the kidneys thus masking deeper kidney problems.

In other words.... she's old. Try putting a litterbox closer to her or in the room she peed in so her old body can get to it.

The reality is... and what I used to advise my clients with is a speech like this, "It's quality of life for BOTH of you." Her quality of life is important and so is yours. Also, cats don't like to be messy. IF she is unable to control her urine, isn't eating well, is always dirty and snotty, and seems... well.. miserable. It may be time to make some tough choices. But you know her best and you know what you can handle, weigh your options. Maybe you can confine her in the new place? Maybe with multiple litter boxes she wont have the issue... I hope this helped...
