We're heading into spring, but that doesn't mean the winter weather has to go just yet. With most of Britain getting its first snowfall of the year, it's time to play that oh-so-predictable game that we know and love, called "watch the councils completely fuck up the roads again"
Over Tuesday night, the roads around here only got a slight dusting of snow, and by the looks of things, next to no grit. That made driving into work a bit more challenging, especially since I use a country road as a shortcut. What I wasn't counting on was that the main roads through villages that are used by buses, weren't treated either.
You can imagine the fun and games as I drove down the hill towards a crossroads, only for my brakes to not work. Eventually they did, but the rest of the journey to the park and ride was a bit scary as my brakes decided to lock up whenever I needed to use them. Now, I don't know too much about cars, but what was ABS for?
Anyway, so after another slow day at work (which involved me messing around in Excel to help create an automated timesheet for the agency... whoever thought that programming IF and SUMIF arguments could be so excruciating?), I got back to the car to find a great big black lump of snow behind one of my front wheels. Guess I'd driven through some snow this morning (no shit!) and that'd stuck to the front wheel, causing it to skid rather than brake.
The snows are a-falling again, although the councils around here went out of their way to tell us that "we will be gritting the roads tonight". Looks like I may be having to take a long detour to avoid those country roads in the morning...
