I was just going to suggest this. We rented one for last year's fangirl roadtrip to Byron Bay and it was great, fitted four of us and all our crap in it. The only thing was it was so incredibly quiet that we nearly ran over people in the street any number of times.
I think the Prius is a neat car, but is the extra $8,000 for it (over the Smart Car) really getting you that much? I just need a run-about kind of car to get reliably to all my gigs.
The problem with the Prius is that it costs about a third more than the Smart Car. :/ While not really outside our price range, I'm not sure you're getting $8,000 more in value.
Well, all the kids are grown and gone, the dog has been farmed out to my Richmond step-son (and even then, she could fit in that back area), the passenger/driver area is as big as a conventional-sized car, and the only real issue I had was that it didn't have the suspension of a 'normal' car. Total cost is about $15,500-$16,000.
And yeah, the Tesla... in my dreams. If I could afford that baby, I wouldn't be quibbling about the price of the Prius. ;)
Have you tried on a Prius? I fit in them quite well, and they're spunky little (really not too little, they're quite roomy inside) cars.

You could always look at a Tesla, but I suspect that's out of any of our price ranges...
