Finally, an update (and a break!)
I know I am useless at updating this, sorry!
Busy busy weekend. Had dinner at Ben and Laura’s on Friday night, which was fantastic. One of the nicest nights I have had. Then, for reasons that can only have been inspired by alcohol, we ended up Bopping. Which was surprisingly fun. The music is still cheesy, but the lack of smoke made it nicer, and there were loads of fun people there.
Saturday was busy as well. Had to blow in a new Pipe reed as K had volunteered my services for the Balaka debating competition for the next day, while K had a huge essay to write. Which would have been fine if my pipes were in good order. But managed after several hours to get them in a good condition. Then went out to the pub with Jason, plus a few of the speakers who had come up. Somehow managed to end up quite drunk, and collapsed in a heap.
Sunday dawned, and the accumulated hangover was not nice. However, reckoned that withdrawing from my last debating competition in St Andrews was probably silly, so soldiered up to the Union, and wittered my way through three rounds.
Despite everything I somehow managed to break to the final, and so then had the dual job of trying to write a speech, and tune up my Pipes, and get into Kilt etc for the Final in an hour and a half. Got the best surprise ever when my parents and brother turned up at LPH. Seems K had spoken to them, and they decided they wanted to hear me speak - as they had never seen me make a speech, ever. Managed to do alright, even if one of the judges thought I was on cocaine, and then went for copious quantities of curry and beer in the Balaka. Finished by convening the after-dinner shenanigans, before going home, catching a couple of hours sleep, and coming into work.
Needless to say it has already been a long week!
