One Wal to Mart
So, this is probably all time LJ post #4, I never post here.
I've been working at this temporary Wal-mart in Elk Grove for about a month now. Its a decent job and I actually enjoy it most times. Co-workers aren't awful and most are even good.
I just found out something today that blew my mind, but first some set up.
When hired I was told that attendance was a HUGE deal. Temp associates were allowed 3 days total to be missed. Any more and they were terminated. No matter if it was an asked for day off or a call in for being sick. Also, tardies were kept track of and 3 tardies = 1 absence.
Easy enough to follow these rules.
I noticed almost immediately that the tardy rule was thrown out the window. The same few people are late 5-10 minutes EVERY day. I don't understand how you can be late like that so often. And its not like the bosses don't notice, they just don't act serious with them.
Oh well, I really don't care about that, so I let it pass.
Its common for businesses to hire temp associates on permanently. However, everyone who hired n as a temp associate was pretty much told that there are no openings and that there is pretty much no chance of anyone getting hired. Okay, no biggy, they were up front about it.
Now the rumor around the store lately has been that they DO plan to hire a decent amount of temp associates. Well, I am not going to hold my breath for it, but it would be nice to have a steady job with a discount to the store I shop at most.
This is where it starts getting juicy.
Thursday 3 people (all girls) from my shift didn't show up for work. 1 called in and she is cool. The other 2 didn't call or give any notice. A BIG no-no for temp associates. Most people get fired for even one of those. One of these girls already had 1 other no call, no show.
Now, the thing about the one girl with 2 no calls is that she is a very popular young lady. She s one of those girls that have all the men drooling over her. It is pretty pathetic and funny to watch from the sidelines at EVERY male worshiping her feet and eye fucking her butt when she turns around.
All 3 of these girls didn't go to work Thursday because they had gone out rafting/drinking on Wednesday. They were invited by a bunch of the regular Wal-Mart employees, including the night manager and some other manager type dude. I'll say he is a day supervisor.
Turns out this was a WILD time, with boobies and hickeys and some boink-a-boink happening during/afterwards. Not exactly something I myself would be comfortable doing with co-workers, especially not people I who run the place I work at.
Little Miss Hotstuff apparently went and practiced her genital karate with the day supervisor. And if you were to know this girl's personality, and see this guy's face/body/sweat stains you would realize that there is only one reason to be sleeping with him. Get a permanent position.
And I think, ick. Its god damned Wal-Mart. This isn't some cushy office job with high salary or anything. Its god damn Wal-Mart. Nasty.
Oh, and as it turns out the night manager and day supervisor are good buddies. They apparently make bets about who is going to sleep with what hot associates. They were both gunning for uber skank. They have been successful in the past and I have met a few of the employees they have "conquered".
Its freaking nasty. Seriously, these guys are grody as hell. Sure I could imagine them getting a steady girlfriend and having physical relations, but I can't see anyone falling for their casanova bullshit.
So it turns out I've been working in a store of immoral pigs. I'm kind of tempted to do an anonymous call to corporate about it. Not for any white knight reasons either. I just would love to see these guys squirm during a review. Meh, I doubt anything would come of an anonymous tip, especially when all of my info is second hand hearsay.
Oh well, none of that specifically effects me and I wouldn't think twice about it, but it would irk me something fierce to know that some crabby crotched ho was hired over me.
