new car

Well, I did it.  The girl who bitched and cussed out all of the SUV drivers here in houston, just did it.

I bought an SUV.

My Saturn died.  Well, its still drivable.  But it wouldn't pass inspecion.  The head gasket blew and I was only driving with 3 cylinders (rather than 4).  It would have cost $2300 - $2600 to fix it.  And I suspected a few other things were set to divebomb soon.  So I traded it in.  My brother talked to a mechanic friend of his who agreed that the price to fix it was fair, but said that while he didn't work on Saturns very often as they are generally very good cars, once they start to go, they cascade.  Basically, My car was on its last leg.

I am the proud (and surprised) owner of a 2009 Jeep Patriot.

Its Deep water blue, tinted windows and pretty basic, but its automatic, has a/c, and gets pretty good gas milage.  23 in the city and 27 highway which is about what I got in the saturn (maybe 25/28).  It was between this Jeep and a Saturn Astra which was pretty nice but was slightly smaller than my Saturn SL1, and was a  hatchback with only about 2.5 feet from the backseat to the 5th door.  It would have fit the stroller and not much more.

Also, the jeep had a lifetime powertrain warranty.  LIFETIME.  I just have to bring it in every 50,000 miles for them to check it out and make sure its running right. Considering my transmission was going anyway, this was a big selling point for me.
sigh.  But I was sad to see my saturn driven away.  I didn't really get to say goodbye.  I do miss my little saturn.  It was a mostly good car while it lasted.  Hopefully, they'll fix it up and sell it.  Poor little saturn.

I am enjoying the more roomy jeep.  It is pretty.  It looks like a slightly smaller version of the old jeep cherokee.   I am driving a box.
