Books!

I realised too many of my posts lately have been about work or work related people. Now part of that is that I’m pretty much living my work at the moment but I thought I should try and post something different…

Now the best part of living in a place that has absolutely nothing that I am remotely interested in doing is that I can catch up on my reading. This week I read two books: The Grand Tour written by Patricia C. Wrede & Caroline Stevermer and Pride and Prescience (Or, A Truth Universally Acknowledged) A Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Mystery by Carrie Bebris.

Both nice, easy books to read that only take a couple of days to get through. I think of the Cecy and Kate books I prefer the first (Sorcery & Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot) but this one was good. The first was written as a series of letters between the two characters (Kate was having her first season in London and Cecy was stuck at home) in this one both characters (and their new husbands) are traveling together through Europe. Rather than letters Kate’s sections are written as diary entries and Cecy’s as a deposition. Basically it’s Jane Austen with wizards and more adventure so I kinda loved it.

The Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mystery was surprisingly decent. I wasn’t expecting much of it but when I bought it I’d just rewatched Pride and Prejudice so I felt like re-reading it instead I found this while looking for new mystery books at Kinokinoya. It wasn’t bad nowhere near as good as Pride and Prejudice of course but not so horrible that you’d throw it away. Elizabeth in particular is damn close to the original. The mystery parts are good although I’m still not sure why the author felt like throwing a couple of Americans plus some supernatural elements in. All in all though not to bad a read.
