Kylie Minogue - Concert

I got talked into going to the first Kylie concert in Sydney last night. I have to say I wasn't too fussed one or another but figured if I didn't see her now she's gonna be heading into the Madonna territory of being way too old to still be trying to be dressing and acting like that on stage.

Anyway i have to preface this by saying the first cassette i ever got for Christmas was the Kylie Minogue - Kylie cassette when i was about 7 years old. So I have been listening to her music on and off for around 20 years. Apart from my few pre-teen years where i wanted to grow up and be Kylie Minogue i've never been a huge fan but I don't mind her newer stuff and I was looking forward to hearing some of the old stuff that i loved when i was a kid. So last night was kind of a flashback to that considering I actually went wearing something pink (cause when i was 7 I actually wore pink all the time).

It's funny i think this is the first big concert i've been to with the whole backing dancers, costume changes, big sets thing. I've been to a heap of concerts but usually it's either a band or someone from a musical who rely on their voice rather than the spectacle. Not to say Kylie's voice was bad she actually sounded pretty great but the special outfits, the backgrounds and the 10 or so dancers really made the show great. Highlights had to be the bubble she came in on during the first set and then the giant, sparkly glitter skull she came in on in the second.

She did a good mix of songs from her last two cds, her older stuff and some random stuff as well (still not sure why she did Copacabana). Have to say she looked like she was having fun being home and she was thrilled at a bunch of the kids dressed up in the audience. In fact one little 5 year old spent 5 minutes on stage with her and sang for the crowd cause Kylie was impressed that she came in costume and was down the front.

It was the complete opposite of the last couple of concerts I've been too (Ani DiFranco and Death Cab for Cutie) but I actually enjoyed it more because of that. I don't know that i'd ever want to see her again but for a one off show it was great.
