Nice. We are moving into uncharted territory now (as far as I can tell) - out of major villains, sort of (after all The First was supposed to have been linked to the resurrection mojo...right?).
Loved the Xander-Dawn interaction. That's the Xander that I've been missing.
I do wonder wonder, with some mild trepidation, what Willow is going to do. I mean she is getting cranky because she no longer has all the gossip she could want, and Xander's doodad finally worked on a magic scale so the jealousy is probably up a notch. I wonder if magic addiction is going to rear it's ugly head, though with Tara & Jonathan there and a lot less Hellmouthy stress she is likely to be better adjusted.
We are moving out of Big Bad territory, that's true. Jonathan will almost certainly not be a villain in the S6 timeframe, and yeah, the First doesn't have a foothold since Buffy probably won't die and be brought back. That's kind of the downside of this story at this point, actually. Xander's super science is just so useful that it's hard to maintain any kind of threat from the normal bad guys.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why there's been a lot of sex in this story lately. Sex is great when you don't have any actual conflict in your story.
I always suspected that it was Buffy's first death, at the Master's hand, that caused the disruption that the First decided to exploit. It was that death that split the Slayer line, after all, and the First first showed up trying to disrupt their lives long before Buffy died the second time.
It's certainly possible to interpret it that way, but I think the fact that the First didn't make a move until after Buffy was resurrected says a lot. If it was Buffy's first death that created the "whatever" that allowed it to go forward with its plans, it would have done it much sooner than S7.
As much I love the way this is going, I kinda hope the next idea is soon. If only to add the possibility of conflict because the worst bad guy they faced is now toast.
However, if that doesn't occur until after the Buffybot gets up and running, I wouldn't complain.
didn't they already do the strawberry and sexy Xander enhancements? Buffy mentioned them in the last part as if they had already done the enhancements.
Love Giles and Anya. They have real comedy potential.
Surprised that Xander's idea was so effective when its been a running theme that Science! Isn't necessarily effective against the supernatural. I don't have an issue with it, I'm just noting it.

Oops, good catch on the augmentations. This was supposed to be Buffy doing more augmentations, but the strawberry thing should not have happened yet (this is the downside to writing things out of order). I'm going to go back and take that one line out of the last installment.
As for Xander vs Glory, I did that for two reasons:
1. Glory (and Dawn, technically) is not from the main Buffyverse, and that means that the magical laws that deal with her are different than the magical laws of the main Buffyverse. It's entirely possible that in her universe, magic is science and science is magic.
2. I figured he was due. I've never wanted to imply that science in the Buffyverse is entirely useless. The Intitiative was able to do a lot with mostly scientific ideas, after all. I just didn't want it to be TOO useful. As it is, Xander's super-science has already dealt with almost every major and moderate threat, even if it's indirectly sometimes. This is just the first time that he trumped something seemingly magical in origin.

with the lack of normal buffy level big bads, you could have Xander and his inventions enter the wider world. Plenty of story potential with Xander releasing technology into the world to change it. I happen to like the more personal nature of the changes. While I likes me some big fight scenes, I like the human drama as well. Maybe have them engineer a Revelation type event similar to IAWIA. It would be interesting to see them dealing with the fallout of revealing the Supernatural world. You could turn this into one hell of a longer fic if you so desired.
On those lines, I miss the Faith Xander closeness from the early chapters. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing Faith/Buffy/Xander either ;)
An interesting variation on this idea would be to make Xander a magical genius instead of a tech genius.
With your renewed level of writing I went back to read some of your older stories. I forgot how much I loved See Noir Evil and Crisis on Infinite hellmouths.
What, no council? Aww, I wanted to see their reaction on Faith thecyborg. Also, wasn't Wesley planning on checking on them (Buffy and Faith) when he left? What was going on with Angel crew anyway? Are there any ripples reaching LA from Sunnidale
( ... )
The council basically had their "get on board or shut up" moment back in S3. Giles is pretty much Buffy's Watcher these days, and whatever's going on in L.A. is as removed from Sunnydale as it ever was. I guess the only big difference is Wesley never got tortured by Faith, so he's probably not quite as dark as he would have otherwise been

Not consensually, anyway.

Are Warren & Co. going to make an appearance?
What about the Terminator?
Cheers,
Nick
