Talk about feeling conflicted. In my heart of hearts, I will always hate Walmart (duh). I hate them for squelching small businesses, I hate them for their censorship tactics, I hate them for how they've helped change us from producers to consumers, I hate their employment practices, et al.

I think the context is so different from how it's been done in the past that people (myself included) are still hesitant to trust them. If they have a good green PR upswing and realize, after all, that maybe the green way they're doing things isn't significantly cost-compartive or it's too labor intensive...they might just roll back and not give proper notification. With a co as large as WM it'd be hard to watchdog from within. With smaller "for a cause" places you'd get a renewed committment to find alternate ways...because they are more concerned about the cause, not the ( ... )

You're absolutely right that its the same thing as corporate farms going organic. I didn't know some farmers stop certifying...but that makes sense, the whole certification has ebbed away at the meaning behind it...

But some things, like say alternate energy sources, need to be adopted by big corps to event make a difference...

We'll see how the WM thing plays out. I guess all I know is that in my gut, I don't trust it.
