Her parents were arguing. Quite mildly, still, but soon she thought that things would be hurled - words and trinkets both. Kally bent her head over her book and hoped they would move into the next room to continue their fight.
“Oh!” her mother said, her shapely hands clenching. “You won’t even listen.”
“Neither will you,” said her father in measured tones. He kept his face still as he gazed at his wife.
“But I’m right,” she said. “You know I am.”
“On the contrary.” His jaw, Kally saw out of the corner of her eyes, was tight.
