"And here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time"
-Whitesnake, "Here I Go Again"
Okay, first one of the down sides of traveling: being stuck in a car. I'm not big on car travel, especially as a passenger. Among other things, I get motion sickness easy when we're traveling up twisty, or hilly roads (don't feel like puking, mind you, I just feel horribly dizzy like I want to pass out.) Knowing this could be a problem, I bought some over the counter stuff to take beforehand. For the most part, I think that reduced these feelings during the trip and the subsequent days when we went to town and back to the Timeshare.
Getting back to the whole car travel thing, like I said, I'm not big on staying in cars for long lengths. For starters, I don't FIT comfortably in most cars. Seriously, some cars I have to practically be a damn contortionist just to get inside because of my height. Then there's the whole "Dammit, why doesn't this seat go back another further" problems and the occasional bouts of, "Why isn't this damn seat belt a little larger?" And so forth. Ahh, the joys of living in a world where most things were designed for short people.
In addition, there's not much to do when you're stuck in a car... I don't have any hand held game devices, or even an mp3 player. I guess if you're with a group of friends, it's easier because you can all chat together and play goofy driving games, but my parents aren't into that. Plus, they've switched back to their regular music (as opposed to this retro phase they were in recently playing all the pop and rock tunes they'd grown up with.) So, I had to listen to country music.
For five hours.
Each way.
Yeah, that was fun. Another odd thing, they just recently gotten a TomTom GPS guidance system (gift from my older brother) and, despite the fact they go down to Branson each year, they insisted on inputting the directions into the system, so we could constantly hear a mechanical vaguely female-sounding voice telling us to, "TURN.....RIGHT....HERE."
Actually, all kidding aside, I wouldn't mind having one of those. I mean, I don't travel too often, but usually when I do, I end up getting lost on the way their or back (see my entry about my trip to my sister's house.)
