Okay, a bit of a quick update here. First up, I got my car back! YAY! My stepbrother came over Friday with the parts from the other Lincoln that he had in his yard and he and my stepdad swapped out most of the needed materials. Andy (my stepbro) brought Evelynn, his daughter, along with him because Bev, his wife, was working that day and Mike (their son) was in school. Mom came over to my apartment to pick me up and take me over there so I could visit with everyone for a while. When she pulled up, she had Eve in the back of the car.
As soon as I sat down she said, “Uncle Mike, I’m five!” (She had a birthday last October.)
“Oh, really?” I replied.
“Yeah, I’m five now!” she said, happily.
I said, “Oh, well, I liked you better when you were four. Can you go back to being four?”
“Noooo!” she said.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Cause I’m too big to be four!”
We went back to the house and I spent a little time chatting with Eve. I don’t know if it’s because she’s gotten “used” to me or if it’s because she’s getting older, but Eve certainly has gotten way more chatty than she was short year or two ago. From barely a word to me, she now likes to tell long, rambling stories, punctuated with the occasional, “Guess what?” Don’t get me wrong, some of the stories are pretty interesting, but I think she gets some of the details confused.
Oh, I forgot to mention, before going over to mom and Jim's house, I sent a picture I had made to mom's computer it's was an altered image of Eve in which I made her hair a purplish color (purple is one of her favorite colors.) Mom then PRINTED the picture on some of the photo quality paper she has. Eve liked the picture, although she felt the hair looked more pink than purple. (And I have to admit, it kind of did, I think the colors on my browser are a bit darker than most...) She asked me to give her a lighter colored shade next time.
After a bit, I went out to the garage to see how the car was coming. I hadn’t taken a picture of the damage to my car, but I DID take a few pictures of the rather surreal sight that greeted me: my car with NO front end. It’s just rather odd seeing a car with all guts of the engine out and exposed like that.
Andy and I talked for a bit about the repairs, and he jokingly asked if I wanted him to put in some “demolition” reinforcements to the car. I asked, jokingly, if we could give me a second bumper. “Actually,” he said, “We could do that, but the one from the other car isn’t here.”
And I said, “Ahhh, man!”
You see, I couldn’t help but notice earlier that while I had received extensive damage to the front of my car, the bumper hadn’t even been noticeably dented. The space above it though, was caved in, almost making it look like my car suddenly had a shelf in front of it. I couldn’t help but think if my bumper had been about six inches higher I probably could have plowed into that deer and just kept right on driving!
Anyway, around one, we sat down and ate some lunch together: chili with corn bread. Eve didn’t eat that much because she had already consume some sausages patties earlier as a snack, while telling mom and I about this dream she had about a missing tire her dad (in the dream) had told her to find.
It was getting on near two o’clock when I had Jim drive me back to my apartment. I wanted to turn in and get some sleep, as I had to work that night.
