Entry from last night

So, I'm typing this at work right, it's about 1:00am in the morning.  I'm going to do the audit in about thirty minutes or so.  We've got ONE room left.  That's kind of interesting, although Saturday is usually our busiest night, we're entering our slow season, and we haven't been as packed as usual.  Well, last weekend the entire TOWN and most of the area were filled up, they had parent's week at SIU, so lots of people were down for that.  You know, it's funny, the whole two years I was in the university my parents NEVER came to visit me on campus.  (Course, I was living with them at the time, so maybe that's why..)

Hehe!  :)

It's kind of interesting, they've put up some fall/Halloween decorations on the front counter.  Instead of the wire candy dish we have to scarecrow type figure with a wooden basket in his hands.  It's actually kind of cute, looks more like a Raggedy Ann (or, in this case, Andy) doll) than a scarecrow.  Far end of the country, next to where I'm typing, there's a small plastic pumpkin with a light inside it's mouth flashing away.  Also on the wall there's a doll with a wreath behind it with an "Autumn Fair" sign on top.  It's all kind of a nice actually, I may have to bring my camera and take some pictures.

Well, leaves are slowly starting to change around here.  I've always loved how leaves look in the fall, the nice mix of orange, browns and yellows.  Strangely enough I'm using more evidence of fall along the trees by the highway than I am in the tree that I've been photographing in the parking lot by my apartment (see entry).  What's also neat is I'm seeing some trees their leaves are turning bright red.  I'll have to get some pictures of it sometime, maybe I can figure out what type of trees they are.

Not much going on right now in my life.   As I think I mentioned in an earlier entry, I FINALLY managed to pay off my back rent.  Now, oddly enough, for the past couple of days I've been feeling cautiously optimistic about the future.  Granted, at the moment I only have seventy or so dollars in my bank account and it's gotta last until Monday the 13th, but, hey, how is that any different from any other week?

Hehe.. Monday the 13th.  Now that would be a kickass title for a horror film.

Well, this is kind of weird.. there's a guy out in the dining area who's been just sitting there watching TV since I came in around 11pm.  It's not 2am and he's STILL just sitting there.  He got up for a bit when the guy who was working on the Internet (I assume it's one of the people he's sharing a room with), and they talked for a bit, then wondered outside for awhile, but now he's back.  I'm tempted to ask him something, “Hey, you know we've got TVs in the rooms, right?”  But wonder if I should...

Dunno, maybe someone else in the room is sleeping and he doesn't want to wake them...  Still, it's just weird to have someone out here this late at night.  I mean, I occasionally see people going through the lobby on their way outside (or back in), but I don't get too many people just hanging out around here, especially not solo.  Just hope he's off by three, because I want to watch Robot Chicken!  :)

Post script: Got to talking to the guy for a bit, turns out he has occasional bouts of insomnia (I can relate) and has been up since YESTERDAY morning.  When I found he does construction work, I said to him, "Boy, I hope you're not going to be DRIVING anything today.  Hate to see in the news how some guy fell asleep at the wheel of a bulldozer or something."

He said, "No, I'm not driving anything.  I'm just going to be painting sheet rock and then helping out with cleaning up the mess."

If you're wondering, I didn't get to watch Robot Chicken, I figured I could let someone else watch whatever for one night.  Sides, I was only being half serious.

What's really crazy though is where watching CNN Headline news and at one point they had this show about most embarrassing political moments, where they counted down various crazy things that have happened in politics and cut to various people making (sometimes) humorous comments about them.  What's weird though was, I caught the program midway while I was setting up breakfast and I thought for a minute there they guy had switched over to the E! Entertainment channel or some VH1 "I love the 90s" type special.

I don't know, I find it somewhat disturbing when it's hard to tell the difference between a news show and a piece of fluff entertainment.  But, you know, late night programming and all, maybe they just wanted something to fill in the gap...
