A quick note

Can't talk too long, gotta head into work soon.

Speaking of work, it's funny, yesterday I had a conversation with two rather delightful young girls from Mississippi (and yes, they did have accents.)  One them got to talking about this area and say she's, "I tell ya, ya'll's REALLY depressed down or something.  I mean, we're all like, 'Hi!  How ya doing?' and everyone is like looking at us like we're crazy for being happy or something.  This one old guy's like, 'Oh, do you really want to know?'  And I go, 'Sure!' and he's like, 'Well, my sinuses are acting up, had to go to the doctor, I got like really hay fever and stuff...'

"And I'm like, 'Well, so what, at least you're ALIVE!'

"And then we went over to that bar [there's a bar and grill near the motel] and you know, where we come from, we'll have like, an hour long with the waitresses you know.  Come in strangers, leave friends, but the waitresses over there were RUDE.  We're like, 'Hi! How's it going?' and they're are, 'What do you want?'"

I had to laugh at this, cause, come to think of it, they're RIGHT.  A lot of people in this ARE really freaking down and draggy.  And I know we calling other people depressed and draggy is a bit like Don King telling someone they need to get a haircut, or Clinton calling another guy a horndog, but still, at least when I'm down, I TRY not to be all gripey and complaining and stuff.  (Plus, I think I've got some damn good reason to be down, and I think a lot of people around here just ENJOY being miserable.)

So, this girl continued, "I mean, I'm amazed, you know?   I mean, we're only five hours away, but it's like a totally different culture over here.  We're all pretty friendly and outgoing where I come from, here you try to talk to people and they look at you like you're crazy or something..."

Course, granted, I doubt, for them at least, it'd that way with young men in the area, I'm sure two attractive young ladies like them have no problems finding GUYS who would be friendly to them, but I didn't point that out.

But still, the conversation was interesting to think about... maybe it wasn't just me.  I mean, maybe this whole damn area has some kind of taint about it.

We also talked a bit about how people up here perceived people from the south, another neat conversation, but I have to leave, so I'll talk about it in another journal.

Peace out!
