This vid... is incredible.

Thank you :) Your comment made my time while I was postponing my reply to your wonderful feedback and rereading it. It's called self-indulgence, I know I'm not sinless :)

I think I spent too long listening to them as a child to really appreciate them.

Was that some part of musical education imposed on a child who'd grown into adult unable to stomach listening to arias at all? :)

I can't imagine how much work must have gone into this.

Surprisingly enough, not as much as was required for my previous one. And I'm glad about that, because you know how emotionally exhausting this kind of fun can be. ;) I think I'm doomed here, given that I happen to be a real sucker for angst and rarely make something cheerful. Not to mention that somehow angsty themes turn out to be more difficult to vid for me technically as well.

I deliberately didn't read the lyrics for this

I thought you wouldn't. And I agree, the lyrics aren’t important in this song, I posted them for those who would be interested in translation or would feel uneasy without comprehension. It's nice to be given a choice, right? And I don't think all of the potential viewers had such a musically enriched childhood as you did not to overthink the content but to listen with their… I don’t know.. hearts?).
I remember your vid to Just Like You Imagined and you talking about how it was difficult to vid to the composition without lyrics, with melody only and how you used certain replicas as milestones in order to make it flow smoothly and have a recognisable thesis. With Canta Per Me it was pretty much the same for me. Before even starting I needed to listen to it a million times and think about what exactly I'd like to say to the viewers. Simply listening to the song and thinking "wow, that's beautiful, sounds a lot like BSG to me" wouldn't work. That's when the concept of Cylon/Human ways of connection with their own kind, their ways of dealing with their destructiveness was born in my head. Funny though, a person who talked me into making a vid to Canta Per Me is an Adama/Roslin shipper and surely she was expecting me to make A/R vid out of it. But I think the way the video came to is transcending the frames of one particular ship... and frankly, that’s one of the things I was aiming for.

the cadance to the images initially is a little odd, a stutter that seems out of place until I realise that it's not a stutter

Yeah, the repetitive clips were used deliberately to create a bit of a sense of instantaneous crazy déjà-vu from Tyrol’s pov and attune the viewer to the music. But once again I’m reminded to slow down. One of my friends who commented this vid said it’s way too frantic and the imagery change is too fast. She watched it like six times and I’m not the one to brush something like that aside, so I actually sat down and rewatched the vid attentively with her comments and came to conclusion that, yeah, for some people it may seem desultory because of the pace perhaps. Not that I would completely reshape this vid if I were to make some changes and corrections, but I’d approach certain moments with caution and maybe would stop myself from stocking more visual info into the precious seconds than they are able to deliver. I’m always walking on the edge that way, trying to find a point of balance.
