Oh boy...
I've been dreading updating this for a while. Quite a bit has happened since I last updated. Let's see...we had parents weekend and all us plebos got accepted into the Regiment of Midshipmen and as Midshipmen in the Naval Reserve. Got to see the parents and get out of this place for a night. We went to the air traffic control center that controls all traffic for LGA, JFK, Islip, and a couple others..."Pushing Tin" style - very impressive. After that, got back into the swing of things here and we got our midterm grades. So far, all A's, but we'll see how that holds up by the time finals are over.
Last weekend three boats from the power squadron took a trip a couple harbors Eastward to Oyster Bay. "Mr. Fritz", a multi-millionare who's mansion we passed on the way to the marina, sponsors the Kipp's Bay Boys and Girls Club, so we helped out on Saturday with that. We took the kids sailing, kayaking, out on the "Christeen" - a 220+year old sailing vessel that used to tend oyster "farms" in Oyster Bay.
I know I've skipped a lot, but hopefully I'll keep this a little more current so I don't have to do that in the future. This weekend was pretty relaxed. A few of us guys went out on the town last night and grabbed some dinner in the measly 4 hours of liberty that we were granted. Oh yeah, and just 5 days until I get to come home for the first time since July 8! For some reason I have a feeling that this week will seem pretty slow. That's it for now!
