Hi- Did you friend rufina? as for the top seam it would not be folded over but two rectangles sewn together leaving an opening for the head. I don't know why you would bunch them at the shoulder.

Because the width of the "pillow case" is much wider than JR. That I thought that was what you were supposed to do. LOL You know, that full, flowing tunic look.

Uh, JR is getting wider every minute. Did you see him in his armor? Every time he got hit in the belly he giggled like the Pillsbury dough boy.

I call him "The Giggler" for a reason! LOL You should hear him on gaming nights.

His WOW (World of Warcraft) diet and exercise regime is not doing him any favors. It consists of consuming pepperoni, cheese, and triskets in mass quantities while sitting in front of the computer for hours.

I can't vouch for its accuracy, but here's a description: (of pinning/tying up the back of the neck)

I think linen is the way to go, but that's because I like linen, and I don't like raw silk!
:-) Plus, if it's hot and muggy, linen would be wonderful to wear but silk is hot.

Too funny, he asked about silk. He has a non Roman tunic out of silk and likes the feel of it.

My take is that silk noil (what we call raw silk) wouldn't be used for clothing for anyone of middle or high status, as the slubs would be considered flaws in the fabric. Of course, fine silk would have been highly regarded.

But, for ancient Rome, I don't know if this applies.

I got to thinking about it and think you're right that silk noil would be not so nice in the humidity we get here during the summer. Then I got to thinking about silk broad cloth. The trick is finding some. Our local fabric store is JoAnns, they're pretty close to useless for fabric selection.

Hi, I was kicked over here by goodscagirl.

Are you making men's tunics? I'm not sure what you mean about the bunching at the shoulders.

Raw silk is generally not a good bet for Roman. stick with the linen. It'll be a lot more comfortable.

Hiya! Yes, men's tunics. The width of the fabric is wider than my fasion victim, JR. Perhaps too wide? But I thought you wanted it to be wider than say a Viking tunic. ???

I did see several references to the neckline on the tunic being wide enough to pull one arm and shoulder out for heavy work, so that would indicate quite a bit wider than a fitted norse tunic!

Hey - I want a pic if your sweetie wears it off one shoulder! Hubba hubba!
:-D

LOL - I doubt he'll ever do that, Malcolm is very modest. JR might though and he *is* a cutie, I'll be sure to get a picture for you! LOL
