Bible Reading--Ezra 1-10

May 06, 2007 15:24

The first six chapters of Ezra record the details of rebuilding the Temple, and the last 4 chapters deal with Ezra rebuilding the spiritual condition of the people. Ezra is described as "a scribe who was well versed in the Law of Moses."(7:6) But Ezra went well beyond just knowing a lot about the Law of Moses. God's hand was upon him "because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel."(7:10)

The same is true for Christians today. It is certainly important to be in God's Word on a regular basis. I Peter 2:2 says "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby", but if that is all we do we will just become fat babies. Just as Jesus said, "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work"(John 4:34) so too must we move beyond learning what God's Word says to living it and sharing it with others.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22)
