I just checked my journal and couldn't believe it has been 2 weeks since I last posted!! I have been reading my friend's journals each day, but haven't had the time to write myself.
I haven't been able to do much reading the last few weeks. I'm on schedule with my Bible reading...I've finished Nehemiah and Esther and am about a third of the way through Job.
I managed to pick up 9 National Geographic Society books the last few weeks, five at a local antique store and four at the local library sale table, all for only $12!! They are all about 200 pages and are filled with marvelous photography. I've finished Clues to America's Past which explores several archaeological sites throughout America, from various Indian sites to Yorktown and Antietam...even though it was published in 1976 it was fascinating! Currently I'm nearing the end of Still Waters, White Waters: Exploring America's Rivers and Lakes. The author spent a year canoeing in a variety of places...the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of northern Minnesota, the Suwannee River in Georgia, and the Noatak River in the Brooks Range of Alaska to name a few. Again, a very enjoyable read even though it was published 30 years ago.
I've also finished listening to The Sugar Camp Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. My friend
karen1981 has recommended this and other books from Chiaverini's "Elm Creek Quilts Novel" series and I must say she was right on! This was a wonderful book to listen to on the way to work. It dealt with a family in pre-Civil War Pennsylvania, their involvement in the Underground Railroad, and a quilt that had worked into it's design the directions from their station, the sugar camp, to the next stop on the way to freedom. I'm definitely going to be reading or listening to more of this series. This one was excellent!!!
Well, I don't know when I'll get to write again. There are 2 more weeks of school left and then exam week and graduation. Wednesday is the all-school picnic and yearbooks are distributed, and Friday is Junior/Senior(Prom). Next week we're off Monday for Memorial Day and the rest of the week will be spent reviewing for exams, collecting books, etc. Add in all of the end of the year sports tournaments and the myriad of open houses to attend and there will be no shortage of things to do. The girls track team won their regional competion, so they will be heading to states in 2 weeks...the guys didn't win their regional, but several individuals qualified for states. The baseball team is expected to do well in states as well...hoping to make it to the finals in Battle Creek as they did 2 years ago.
Oh, and my daughter is feeling like the grandchild may be arriving sooner than the end of June!! :) Will the excitement never end!
