Bible Reading--I Samuel 16-31

Mar 24, 2007 10:43

While David is chosen to replace Saul as King of Israel in Chapter 16, he still has not taken up that position by the end of I Samuel.
The Lord told Samuel to go to Bethlehem to select one of Jesse's sons. When he arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:6-7

How often do we judge others by what we see? Do we value physical attractiveness over inward character? Thankfully that is not the way God does it. Samuel saw a young shepherd with a ruddy complexion, but God saw a man after His own heart. May we see others as God does.
