Following the success of the film "No Country for Old Men" it was only a matter of time before Hollywood jumped on to the Cormac McCarthy bandwagon (apparently "All the Pretty Horses" didn't really do it for Hollywood).
Recently I learned that McCarthy's post-apocalyptic odyssey--and Oprah Book Club fave!--"The Road" is being adapted into a movie.
While I really enjoyed the book, I am experiencing the same emotions of anyone who discovers that their beloved story is being turned into a film: "Sweet! Yay!!! Oops. I mean, boo!".
Honestly I view this news with cautious optimism. The screen shots look promising (ok... screen shot-based reviews are mainly for slavering fanboys) and I like Viggo Mortenson's work. But it appears the movie release date was postponed to later date in 2009. Usually not a good sign. There have even been rumors of it being released straight to DVD(???).
Hopefully it won't be a screw up of apocalyptic proportions.
Whatever the case, I heartily recommend the book.
