In a Country of Mothers by A M Homes. I absolutely loved
This Book Could Save Your Life and all the reviews I read , even ones that absolutely hated that book, indicated that TBCSYL was a "sunny" departure from her usual fare. In terms of dark, IACOM didn't disappoint. Homes has a style that is rich in emotional intensity, a pace that develops a sense of dread not unlike a good horror story. While the divorcee in This Book... slowly awoke to the life he was missing around him, the women in Mothers slowly devolve into an increasing blurry version of reality, with dramatic results. A good read, even if you aren't a mother, weren't adopted, or ever were in therapy.
