Life doesn't end at 30... it's just beginning!

I think I've been a bit too down about 'leaving my safe little predictable world' behind and going into the Army.

It ain't all that bad! In fact, it's a more practical opportunity for a job than college was!

I was talking to some guy who worked for Sikorsky (who came in for a room at 3am) because he had a "Presidential Helicopter" hat and I asked him about it. We ended up talking for 10 minutes or so-- he's an air traffic controller and hangs with the guys who build and fly the Presidential Sikorsky's. He told me he also did time in the Air Force and (like me) he had wanted to be a fighter pilot.. but (like me) the eye-sight requirements got him.

He said I'd be in a fantastic position as an apache mechanic-- I could pursue what I want and try to become a pilot-- or get out and have a fat (phat) career at Sikorsky waiting for me with an army-resume in hand. I explained to him also that I took the GI Bill in case I wanted to go back to school and he lamented that he didn't pay for the GI Bill when he was in the Air Force-- but said Sikorsky will pay for people's college too.

Not that I want to repair helicopters forever, or what have you.. but it's nice to know that if things don't work out exactly the way I want them to, that I have multiple, positive options to chose from to carve out a pretty sweet life! And they almost all involve aviation, ha!
