Normally it's mornings, because it's when I work. and once I get home, what can go wrong? Well morning today was actually good and fun, especially with the comment from Jason that "that woman could be my wife" after I fixed up his ripped hoodie for him... Yeah, that's a whole 'nother story. Comment if you want to hear it.
Anyway, I get home, and mom and I do our usual weekend shopping, groceries and such, especially since my dad is home only for one day this weekend [FUCKING YAY!] and goes back to Aspen for work tomrorow afternoon. When we get home, it's about 4:30, and we hang around while my uncle and dad finish putting in the last brand new window on the top floor and move the shed so that whenever our siding gets done, the people can get to it easily. When 5 o'clock hits, I feed the dogs, and my dad goes down for a shower, so that we can go out to dinner.
6 o'clock hits. Dad still hasn't come up. This is unusual seeing as my dad normally takes about a half hour to shower. He doesn't even dry his hair, by the time he comes upstairs, it's dry. But we don't really think anything of it.
Until 6:30, when we start to go down and check on him periodically. We can still hear the water running in the shower, and him moving about. I go back to cleaning my room while jumping back to the living room now and then to catch glimpses of the Miss America competition.
7 o'clock. Still no dad. We check again. Water is still running. Back to cleaning room.
7:30... same.
8 o'clock, almost on the dot, he FINALLY comes up stairs, moaning and groaning. I see he's at least wearing a pair of jeans, but no shirt on [ew... major freakin' ew] and asks mom to change a dinky little bandage on his back. Mom and I are starving by this point, me to the point that I'm so hungry I'm almost not hungry anymore. After a few more groans of his, we finally head out to dinner.
About a couple blocks away from the restaurant, mom realizes "Is my car smoking?" And I lean over to see out the front windw, and get a lungful of smoke and start coughing. As she turns from the signal to get to the restaurant, her steering goes out. We barely make it into the parking lot and park before we climb out of the car to find that yes, the hood is in fact starting to smoke, and I'm still coughing my head off.
Rather than waiting for someone, we go inside to have dinner at least, and decide to deal with things when we leave.
Dad decides he isn't hungry. What? The? Hell? I wish we had known this sooner so that mom and I could have just gone to dinner without him.
By the end of dinner, mom remembers that she has road-side assitance for the car! So she calls in for that, and finds out, it expired in 2007. So we're pretty much stranded at the restaurant. Lucky us, our neighbor has a tow-truck. Unlucky us, we don't have their number. We have to call my aunt instead to drive us home. For safety reasons, mom tries to drive the car to sit under a light for the night, but can barely get the car to turn to get under the light.
Sigh... Might I add, just a couple weeks ago, mom had to turn in her work car since she no longer works for the company, and hasn't had any problems with her personal car until just tonight. Figures that it would happen now, since it is the only car we can use really for the road trip coming up next week to Vegas, where we have to haul two sofas in a trailer to my cousin who lives out there. We just got a hitch put on the car, and had the reservation put in earlier today for the trailer. Mom didn't want to use my uncle's car because his is really shakey with driving. Mine is too small to haul three people there [my uncle, mom, and myself], and four people back [cousin flying into Vegas, driving back with us]. My dad is taking his car with him for the week, besides, wouldn't want to pull a trailer on a small little neon. And his truck doesn't have enough room for everyone. We leave on Wednesday night or thursday morning. We're screwed.
