Dove Chocolate really wants me to "whisper in the dark"....

Famous people keep coming to talk to me! In my Environment in the Media class last night, George Stoney came to speak to us, and he was freaking awesome. Apparently he is like this famous documentary maker, I've never heard of him but I'm totally in to him based solely on the fact that he's 89 years old and he's just produced a documentary about theater in Sing Sing and is in the process of making another one while being a professor at NYU and touring around to talk and he's like the best speaker ever, PLUS he's a really good documentary maker and he works on issues that are really important and awesome. like the environment. We talked about framing, and my naive dreams were crushed like so many grapes when I realized that in order to suceed, we must frame. I also decided I need a film maker friend who I can encourage to make environmental documentaries.

Then this morning Dave Foreman spoke at these enviro lunches we have every Thursday. He's one of the founders of Earth First. I got really cranky and made facial expressions to a degree of bitter not seen since the crabbing trip when I got an old sea-faring man to apologize to jenny without even opening my mouth or spending more than 15 seconds with him. Luckily Dave Foreman is so totally self-involved (and it was in a lecture hall full of people) that he didn't notice. Grrrraaaar...

Then I went to a grade school and met the kids that Joanna and I are going to teach about the environment. The teacher put on a "Doctor Demento" C.D. Weird. We made nametags and talked about subjects we wanted to study and one kid suggested we study either the inside or the outside of the earth. We gave the kids National Geographic magazines to cut things out of which worked out sort of awkwardly with 5th grade boys. I like kids and the environment. There are some parts of my life that I'm okay with.

The high tomorrow is four degrees. Right now it's 13 but the wind is making it -3. I want to come home. I'm so excited for summer, and I'm so excited for Spring Break. Mmmmm home!
