Well, that made my day...

Some very kind soul sent me a batch of email from http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/jack_and_sams_pad/ a list where our little plagiarizer is being told that she's a good writer and not in the wrong, and, ohmigod, it MUST be the work of people who are jealous and ( Read more... )

Heh. I think I got kicked out of that newsgroup long ago for not posting. I was all flattered that they had asked me in as a "good writer!!1!" though, but, um, didn't read most of the other writers being posted there, so the flattery wore off.

*is a brat*

I got the impression from your previous posts that the actual text of the story had been find/replaced... is that true? Or is it more that the girl might actually think she's just "inspired by" a story (the way young and new writers sometimes are -- the excuse wears off if you're OVER TWELVE, though), copying ideas and plotlines and little bits of clever dialogue?

And don't worry, I'm not defending her, I'm just curious and looking for more information.

It was pretty much a find/replace names job, with a little tiny bit of tweaking to change things from NCIS terms to SGC terms.

Although Jack shopping at Hot Topic because it's Sam's favorite place? Should've been a big clue.. (even scarier, I remember reading the end--Tony gives Abby a gold heart-shaped locket, and she's all thrilled--months and months ago, and mocking it, as Abby would chew Tony up and spit him out)

*headshake* I'm still... actually unsurprised.

McGee. 'cause she likes him, and he's cute and geeky and adorable. But Tony is none of the above. *eg*

Iiiiinteresting. Turns out I *wasn't* kicked out of the yahoo group and am still a member. I'll see if I can find out where she's hosting her stories now.

*laughs* I haven't found the fics yet, but what they're saying about it is basically that it's possible that other people have been plagiarizing this girl (since someone said "Oh, yes, the fics are identical... were yours posted first?" -- which is a reasonable question -- and then people just took off. *amused*) The writer herself has been silent since then. *continues to read*

OH. Apparently both "SuzyQ" and "Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter" (the original author and the plagiarist) are the same person, and she just changed her screen name and edited/reposted some of her fics (because she didn't want to use her Stargate screen name in other fandoms, or something). Still kind of a lameass way of generating new material, but if she plagiarized from *herself* than no one else gets hurt.

So does this mean we call off the hounds and just go back go regular badfic mockery?

We continue to mock. But I still want textual analysis, since she's not Kellifer, Beka Cavis, Dex Farkin OR Shannon...

On the forum she says that she has pulled all of her fic off the web in order to not taint others that run in her circle for awards season, or something.

jack-and-sams-pad.com is the site associated with that mailing list. I believe this is the author you were looking for. I don't know if any of these stories are the ones you want or how long she'll keep them up, but 'tis the best I can do.

For what it's worth, I suspect that she's not a cruel person out to harm anyone. However, I'm also interested in your textual analysis, should you ever have one, because find/replacing someone *else's* work is much more dramatically offensive than find/replacing your own!

Happy hunting.

oh, that formatting hurts my eyes.. sigh.

And, sadly, none of the ones I need are there. *irritated at self* I should have grabbed them when I had the chance, but she wasn't enough of a game then.
