Peanut Festival and other Events

Better late than never.

On November 7, I went to the National Peanut Festival. I had debated on going the day before after the friend I was going to ride down with called me and told me that her boyfriend reminded her of all the walking they had to do the year before. They know I have problems with my right foot, so I am thankful they were concerned about this. At first, I decided not to go because of that, so this same friend invited me to go eat with a bunch of them that Friday night. We had such a fun time at the restaurant that it made me want to go to the festival, so I changed my mind and went with everyone the next day. There were twelve of us. Most of us were involved with the BCM here, but a few people were those who come to something the BCM offers to help them learn English.

When we got to the festival, the first thing on my mind was food. I had not eaten anything other than a few crackers earlier in the day, and since the festival is over two hours from Auburn (it ended up taking us three to get there), I was starved. I was able to find some chicken and tea, and that always makes me happy. Haha. Before that though, we went to look at the animals and tractors in barns. A few people got pictures with an old car or tractor, but I bailed on that one. The funniest moment of the night happened in there. One of the guys with us said something about it smelling like animals in the tractor barn. Then someone said they had probably kept them in there at one point, but after that, I commented on how little animals were still running around. Yes. Kids were everywhere. No one except for one person heard me, but a few minutes later, the same guy who commented on the smell said something about little animals being there. That cracked us up because of what he obviously had not heard me say and was the only reason it was so funny.

As I was eating, we sat down to watch the end of a pig race, and after that we all went to a demolition derby. I had heard of those, but I had never been so was not sure what I should expect. Once I got used to the crazily loud noise of the cars, things were good, and it turned out to be fun. I seriously think I could have legally driven in that since the goal is to hit other cars anyway!

After that, some of the others got food, and then we got some tickets for rides. I got enough to ride the ferris wheel only and was kind of glad I didn't buy more. I love ferris wheels, but this one sounded like it was about to drop all of us. When we got to the top, someone said he would not tell us what he noticed until we were safely on the ground. Turns out that the bucket we were in was only held in by one pin. Scary!

I was tired by this point, so while some of the others continued to ride, I sat down with those who were kind of scared of the fair's thrills.

We then drove about an hour to a bonfire and sat outside until 3:00 in the morning talking, shooting off firecrackers, and chasing dogs. After that, we rode another hour to the girl's house we would be staying at. Initially, the guys were going to stay with the people where the bonfire was, but since there were only two of them and since it was out of the way for us to go back to get them the next day, they came with us. Three of us piled into each bedroom at this house, and the guys slept on the couches. The girls I was in the room with were the late risers, and they knocked out like that. I, on the other hand, took until past 5:00 to get to sleep.

At 10:00, we were getting up and having breakfast before heading back to Auburn. I was one of the last two to get dressed and make it into the kitchen. Surprise, surprise!

The drive back was pleasant. We were all still tired so didn't say much and were ready to crash again once we got to our respective apartments and houses.

I ended up having just enough energy to make it to church that night and was glad since the pastor wanted me to sing.

The rest of last week is a blur. On Tuesday, I went to a revival my pastor here was preaching at. I was supposed to sing, but they did not have any sound equipment at that church.

On Wednesday, I went to a leadership meeting to talk to the heads at the BCM about leading Bible study or worship next semester. We have a meeting this Thursday to discuss where we will each be placed.

On Thursday, I skipped my first class because I wasn't feeling well but did end up going to the two later in the day. And finally, yesterday, I went to church and sang. Then, Mom, Ken and my uncle Scott came down yesterday afternoon. We went to eat at Longhorn's, and then they went to church with me. Mom and I sang a song together which everyone seemed to enjoy. It's funny to me since we had not really practiced anything since I have not been home much this semester.
