I hope everyone who celebrates it had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! (whether yesterday or last month :) ) I'm giving myself a long weekend off from work, and it's so nice...
So, now I want to talk about knitting. I have not been a very good knitter in terms of finishing things, in recent years. I don't even remember what the last thing I finished was. Various efforts have been made to combat this problem, but it persists. So of course my latest project is to knit a giant quilt. My previous project was a quilt, but it ended up being too hard to knit in the rare moments I had spare time to knit, and I also decided I didn't care for the colour scheme, and that was the end of it. I've been working on this new one for almost two months now though, and it's simple enough to do while distracted, and I've got a better assortment of colours, so that bodes well, right?
It's
this quilt, by the way. Isn't it a lovely thing? I'm up to 91 of those little puffs, knitted and stuffed. According to the pattern, I need somewhere between 300 and 400 to make a nice big blanket. I've knitted lots of stripes, and a few cabled/ribbed designs, and I'm learning how sweet a variegated yarn can look in small patches. I could never imagine wearing a whole garment made out of variegated yarn, so I don't have much of it on hand... but now, for this purpose, I absolutely adore it, and I keep looking at other knitters' designs (googling "beekeeper's quilt brings me such joy) and I really really want to go yarn shopping to find more colours and patterns. Here's what I've got so far! (pictures from a few days ago, so I have a few more now.)
Josie with the puffs.
It occurred to me that, knitted with a strong yarn, and maybe some catnip added to the stuffing inside, these would make good cat toys... Jo seems to regard all yarn as her prey-she sneaks by while I'm not paying attention, picks up a puff or a whole ball of yarn in her mouth, and dashes out of the room as fast as she can-so I must guard them carefully.
