two delightful volume eights!
Today, in the mail, some manga came! And I quickly realized with delight that they were both volume 8s of two very darling series starring the cute Sakura-team (Mikan Sakura and Sakura Miyashita), and also both translated by double_dear! Yay!!
Also, just a few minutes ago I realized that volume 8s of Hockey Club and I Hate You♥ are also available now or in the near future (yes, October is near future. just let me tell myself that...)! It's magical!
Now, I have one complaint and I'm certain it's not their fault, but wheeeeeeeeeere did the name-suffixes go in Me & My Brothers??? They've always been in previous volumes, but in this one there weren't any! Any! (okay, like two times when Sonomura said "Katagiri-kun." But other than that!) And then I realized, though maybe not for the first time, that there weren't any name-suffixes in Gakuen Alice either, and was bummed about that too. (okay, I was wrong-Gakuen Alice still has 'em. yay! my bad!) Because it just sounds like it's missing something, when those things aren't there. (plus, "Naka" doesn't sound nearly as fun as "Naka-chan") But what can you do? It's not like I'd boycott buying them just because of that-not when the stories in question are this adorable. So I'm just complaining to get it out of my system so I can be happy about everything else that happened in these volumes!
Gakuen Alice 8! The cover is Tsubasa!! Awwww! He's my favourite! Well, one of my favourites (along with Narumi-sensei and Luca-pyon (oh yes, they do include the -pyon so I guess that's one thing to be thankful for)). Higuchi-sensei mentioned getting letters from readers who enjoyed seeing Tsubasa and Mikan interacting (also Narumi and Mikan). He is so like a nice big brother to Mikan. It is the most adorable thing-I love seeing that incredibly much. (and it's fun watching him tease the other kiddies too)
Oh, this volume made me cry. Multiple times. I guess I better just say it, Lys is an emotional wimp. But Pengy...! And when Mikan apologized to Prez when she got back and set off everyone crying, I was too!! And then the snowman and cake...! Just glancing over the end of the previous volume to refresh my memory, it hit me what an emotional series this is. Maybe it gets to me more because the characters are younger... that might seem like they'd be harder to relate to, but those kids are just so earnest and strong-hearted, they steal my heart every time!
It was nice to see a little emotion from Hotaru (or was I imagining it?) The colour illustration on the back cover/title page for the first chapter, her expression was rather soft. It was sosweet. (you know, I'm realizing as I write this that I keep saying things like "They're adorable. It's sweet. It's so cute. etc etc etc...") And when she got back from the hospital, that was sweet too! And well, after all the crazy adventures from previous volumes, it was nice to get back to a "bright, happy" story for the last chapter. Mikan frolicking with Narumi-sensei and Tsubasa-senpai and all her friends! It's the best~! (it was nice seeing Narumi smile again :D) And darnit, I'm almost starting to like Natsume after all, despite myself. That punk.
Me & My Brothers 8! I can never get over how much I love Tokeino-sensei's art. It is tooooooooooooo cute! It is 200% adorableness. I'm not sure what else I wanted to say about this volume though... oh. Sakura-chan! She surprises me a lot, somehow. Maybe because she's so persistent? And honest with herself and others. It's always refreshing to have a shoujo-heroine who knows her own mind. And such a tough little girl, despite her size-bossy and stern when she has to be (heh heh, you need those traits, with that many brothers... (speaking from experience...?)).
Oh, there was a fireworks scene, and there was a big explosion in the midst of some important words, and I was half-worried they'd pull a "the sound drowned out the words!" trick (which I hate) but I should have known better :D It was more just to accent the IMPACT of the words. Masashi looked lovely in his yukata :D And Sakura-chan was soooooooooooo cute in hers!♥ The title page to the next chapter (41) was cute as well (with everyone meeting their younger selves :D any chance to see baby Sakura is not to be missed!)
And finally, I like that the preview-pages for next volume were included again! The original Hana to Yume comics version, not just the 1-paragraph text summary most manga usually has. Even if those preview pages are sneaky and deceiving, they are also fun and intriguing! (ha-ha, almost-rhyme!)
That's all I've got to say for now. Tokyopop, if you read this, please leave the name-suffixes in!! (but other than that, thanks for continuing to publish cute manga for me to read♥)
