Every now and again (read: whenever I need to avoid stuff I actually should be doing), I venture off to the deep end of the internet in search for something new to watch. At times, real gems can be found, and last week I bumped into a short film called Public Relations which is simply one of the cutest things I have ever seen. ♥
The film is about a miserable Hollywood assistant whose life is drastically changed when her sexy New York counterpart moves into town. It really is adorable with a capital 'A', and, you know, girls kissing. When has it ever gone wrong? Besides Bar Girls, that is. And Claire of the Moon, yes.
The film concentrates on the story of Sara and Genevieve (I know. I know). Because of their clients, they've been talking on the phone with each other for two years, but they've never actually met.
Sara is miserable at her job, she's lonely, and although the mail room boy from work recently took her out on a date, things didn't really click.
[taking a bite of her microwave meal]
Sara: Now all I need is a cat.
Aww, poor bb.
Genevieve (how the heck did they come up with that?), on the other hand, is outgoing and a bit of a player. In the words of her employer, she's a "pussy magnet".
When Genevieve's client decides, on a whim, to move to LA, she has no option but to tag along. She and Sara are excited to finally meet in person, and, in true romcom cliché fashion, they accidentally bump into each other at a bakery.
Sara: [mouth full] I'm obsessed with red velvet cupcakes!
Genevieve: Wow. You're even cuter in person than over the phone.
Sara agrees to show Genevieve around town that very evening (although it's eventually Genevieve who decides where they go, since Sara never goes out), which prompts the latter to wear the sexiest outfit EVER; it becomes clear very soon, if it hasn't already, which team Genevieve bats for. I am so bitter that I could never pull off this particular look myself.
UNF.
So, after a while at the bar, Sara realises that holy crap, it's actually a gay bar!
Sara: I'm such an idiot, wow. How did we wind up here? [Genevieve pointedly looking at her] You-, are you...?
Genevieve: Look, I know I'm not Butch Central, but...yeah.
Aaand things start getting interesting. Eventually, Sara agrees to go on the dance floor with Genevieve, but she needs a shot first. Yep, it's all downhill from there!
Fastforward to the following morning...
Uh-oh! Sara has a flashback of the two of them running around drunk and just acting like complete idiots. Her facial expressions are absolutely priceless. Then she realises that, hmm, she's not alone.
Sara: My head hurts.
Genevieve: Did we...?
[Sara looking at her like a deer caught in the headlights]
Sara is conveniently saved by the bell as her client calls, but not before she's had time to have a flashback of the following:
In short: yep, they did.
Sara was supposed to put a bow on the car her client bought for her daughter as a birthday present, so they practically fly out of bed and manage to get it all done, as well as run away, just in time.
Genevieve: [breathless] I'm too old for this shit.
Sara: Not that I remember it, but...last night was the most fun I've had since I moved to LA.
Genevieve: [smiling] Me too. [A/N: it's beside the point that she moved there the day before...]
Sara: [sheepish] And...we did. [laughs nervously]
Genevieve: [smiling] What?
Their obvious intention to kiss is rudely interrupted by their clients who are fervently calling for them (there's a whole lot of mayhem going on). In a spur of a moment, they decide to ditch their clients and run away, since they're both miserable at their jobs anyway.
The end!
Really, given the fact that the story has to play out in less than 17 minutes, it works perfectly. The chemistry between the actresses is spot on, the supporting cast is absolutely hilarious, and despite the short time-span of the film, the love story is totally believable. Plus, the production value is really good, which makes it all just that much more enjoyable.
I highly recommend this, and I would almost give my right arm for a feature length version. Pretty please? Oh, and I need to find fic, which will be like searching for a needle in a haystack in a pile of needles.
Also, a brand new sneak peek of Season 4 of Castle was shown last weekend at the ComicCon (why must all cool events take place so far away?), and let me just say, OMFG THE NEW SEASON NEEDS TO START RIGHT NOW.

Without spoiling anyone, I need to say that the writers deserve major props for not taking the easy way out. The new season is going to be spectacular! \o/
