Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of year again. The VMAs. It's the only award show that amuses me enough that I'll watch it, much less blog about it. So, in typical snarky fashion, here we go.
Russell Brand. You STILL aren't funny. Stop talking about your cock, no one cares.
Kanye West needs to learn when NOT to drink, he went home with NOTHING, and that is all I am going to say about that. But watching everyone faaaaaawn over Taylor Swift all night was cute, I guess. Her subway performance was cute, too. I used to take that same stupid train to and from work every day when I worked at Virgil's. I'd probably be SOOOO pissed about the delays and shit if I were still there. My commute home from work should not take three hours because of Taylor Swift, EVER. I should call my old friends at Virgil's (HA!) and see if it was a disaster.
Leighton Meester looked fiiiiiine, as usual. Am I the only one who thinks Leighton is LIGHTYEARS hotter than Megan Fox? No? Good. Speaking of Megan Fox. . . what, exactly, was she wearing to present Best Pop Video? I mean, really? That outfit made Megan Fox look frumpy. Is that even possible?
I love love LOVED that Wale was chillin' with the house band, even if he DID look super awkward pretending he knew the words along with 3OH!3. Actually, he looked awkward with everyone. I felt like he didn't know nor want to know the music he was playing.
Look, guys. Say what you want about Lady Gaga. Say she's weird or freakish or whatever it is people say about Lady Gaga. But damn, you can't say she's not talented. I thought her performance was bizarre at best, and I didn't really GET it, but I think she's a talented singer. And, uh, unique. Also, was she really playing that piano? After she won Best New Artist, I knew for sure that I'd really love to hang out with her.
The Twilight sneak peek did not make me scream, pee, or squee. Neither did the "This Is It" trailer. Too soon. TOO SOON. TOOOOO SOOOOOOOON!
I still don't like Green Day. Stillllll donnnnn't liiiiiiike Green Day.
It got boring around the middle, honestly. But, it always does. I thought Muse's performance was. . . eh. Did anyone else notice that Muse's audience as they played was almost ALL dudes? Does Muse provide some sort of sausage-party swan song? Or is it just exclusively 23-year-old-guy music? If someone could enlighten me on this, I'd be much obliged.
I wish I'd gotten to see the entirety
The little Eminem/Tracy Morgan skit interludes were cute, too. I really, really like Eminem, so honestly, I think everything he does is great. Including winning Best Hip Hop Video! I was so excited for my little survivor. Love the man. Love him. "It's been a minute, man." But what was up with. . . was that Slim's bodyguard on stage with him?? Does no one else find that weeeeeird? Oh, and the heavenly shoutout to Proof? <3 So sweet.
BTW. J-LO. HIP HOP WAS NOT "BORN IN THE BRONX." STFU.
Pink's acrobatic performance of "Sober"?? Oh my god. Incredible. Like, STUNNING. Was she lip synching? I figure it's probable, but I'd like to believe she wasn't. She skipped offstage!! How cool is that??
Jimmy Fallon is this generations Letterman?? Really? I've met Jimmy Fallon, he's a nice guy. But Letterman?
Video of the Year. Beyonce, girl, you earned it. Classy lady. Too bad she had to spend what should have been her moment in the spotlight kissing Taylor Swift's booboos. Sorry, Taylor, but come on.
In closing-- "This is for God and the gays."
In other television news I MISSED, like an idiot, the premiers of both Gossip Girl and Glee in the past week. I could kick myself. I put BOTH of them on my iCal so I wouldn't forget, and I never even looked. Glee's online already, but I may have to wait a few days to find the new GG episode online. I'm pissed. I also feel like a dork for caring so much about television shows.
I guess I owe everyone a REAL entry, huh? I supposed this is as good a place as any. Since my birthday, I haven't really done too much. But that weekend itself was pretty awesome. Kate and Dan came out to New Jersey to visit. Then the next day, we went back to Brooklyn together and got super duper bombed over brunch. Then home for naps, and I went out to the Trash Bar in Williamsburg that night. Sooooo much fun. Although I still have bruises from wrestling with the owner.
I also went out a few nights ago, barhopping in Princeton. That was fun, too, I did karaoke and then got pulled over and got a $44 ticket for driving with an expired license. That kinda sucked. Like I need legal issues now, right? Other than that, though, fun times.
Life would be more fun if I weren't broke!
