The VMAs this year were so disappointing. I always want to watch because something crazy always happens, or if nothing else, there's some notable performances and a funny host. This year, that was so not the case.
For one, Russell Brand? Okay, admittedly I do sort of have an affinity for the guy, but his humor tonight was not on the ball. He seemed REALLY coked up the whole time and his only real jokes were some tame political jabs and a whole lot of ripping the Jonas Brothers a new asshole. Which normally I'd be okay with, but it got old fast.
Rhianna's opening number was awful, she sounded genuinely bad. Actually, she sounded sick. I'd say she bounced back for her second performance, though, that one was pretty okay.
Apparently, this was the year for BORING, REPETITIVE songs. Rhianna's Disturbia? Boring, repetitive. The new Jonas Brothers? Boring, repetitive. And Kanye's new one? I don't even need to say it again.
I did enjoy Paramore's performance, and Katy Perry's-- that is, the 15 seconds of it that they actually aired. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz looked cute. Shut up, I didn't just say that. And Britney got all the glory she should have gotten 5 years ago, so good for her.
I wanted so badly to like Christina Aguilera's act. I did. I loved the new version of Genie she started with, but it kinda went downhill from there.
I LOVED Pink, though. She looked awesome, sounded awesome, the whole nine. And, uh, Kid Rock sounded good, even though I dispise the dude and HATE that song.
I can't and won't comment on the hiphop performances because in my memory, they all blend into one big mess of gang flags and underpants. Slipknot with McLovin made me LOL. And Jordin Sparks is a beotch.
And that's really all.
I can't believe it was so lame. My job has been MOBBED-- I work down the block from MTV studios. I was expecting so much more.
