there are incredibly few things in my life that i regret, almost no things that i cannot justify in some sort of space-time for myself. one of these few things has a name.

Most social scientists take a sick kind of joy in your experience, because it proves not only the limits of rationality, but the strange occurances that coincide with this thing called the human condition.
Put much more plainly, you could not have seen this coming because at the time you were where you wanted to be, and you were doing what you wanted to be doing for reasons you now hold to be stupid, but that were at that time totally legitimate.
