I had a really busy day yesterday. I got up, drug myself through Wal-Mart (on a Saturday afternoon no less. Ugh) to buy a baby shower gift for my boss and his wife, after which I went to the baby shower. I was surrounded by a bunch of military wives who thought a bottle drying rack was the best thing they'd ever seen. It was a soberingly frightening experience, reminding me that I am very, very far from wanting children at this point in my life.
After the baby shower I went contra dancing for the first time in a while, and enjoyed it immensely. There were a fair number of eager newcomers, as well as some regulars whom I always really enjoy dancing with. I did leave the dance early, though. Afterwards, John and I met at his new apartment and from there went to a downtown bar to watch a drag show. Unfortunately, we got the times messed up and only got there in time to catch the very end of it.
After that we wandered around for awhile before ending up back at his apartment, where we watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I'd never seen it before, but I thought it was a wonderful movie. By that time, it was quite late and we were both planning to get up early, so I made ready to take off, only to find that my car was gone. I had forgotten that if you park in a guest parking space at his apartment between 1am and 5am your car gets towed. This seems strange to me, but perhaps that's just because I'm on the crazy schedule thing where I do a lot of socializing during those times, and it's hard to imagine not visiting or having visitors then. Oh well.
So after driving around for a while before finally finding the phone number for the tow company, we called them and drove to the middle of nowhere to pick up my poor scared car, spending in the process around $150 to retrieve him. Considering the time this was carried out and how tired we both were, it was a rather surreal experience.
I came home and fell into bed exhausted, to dream strange dreams about transvestites. What a day.
