I don't think I've talked about it here, but I am really loving the second series of Game of Thrones. We watched the first series in one big gulp, and it's kind of fun to be waiting anxiously for a new episode each week this time around. It's about six years since I read the books, which is probably why I don't really care about any of the changes they've made, and am just flailing at how much fun (and grimdark, and pretty) everything is.
I heart so many of the characters; I've been loving Sansa this series, but woo, Cersei really came into her own in the last episode, didn't she? Drunk and bitter and so very, nastily human.
I knew about The National song thanks to the magic of YouTube, but holy shit, what a perfect song to end this episode, and for the Lannisters. I was all ready to get on YT and show the boyfriend the song, and then there it was.
I missed Arya (♥ ♥ ♥) and Jon and Robb, and everyone else (Jaime and Brienne, finally!) in this episode, but it made sense to have the whole thing be about Kings Landing and the battle. Tyrion was wonderful, of course - and I love how good all the peripheral characters are, people like Lancel, and Davos's son. Joffrey is mostly just terrifying, but I thought Jack Gleeson did such a good job with him in this episode. His face when the Hound said, "Fuck the king"!
And that scene at the end with Cersei and Tommmen, OMG. Laying the angst on with a trowel, obviously, but even though I knew she wasn't going to do it I was still holding my breath.
In short: roll on next week, and roll on the next series.
(No spoilers for Dance with Dragons, please!)
