Bushfires

I'm thinking of those of you who are down South Australia and Victoria way. The news just gets progressively more horrifying. I hope nobody's been personally affected, but please, stay safe and hydrated and out of the way of fires, all of you ( Read more... )

South Australia has the same climate of Southern California. Like the US counterpart, they have fire seasons. The heat gets intense that trees will explode in to fires. I know a bit about Adelaide (my husband had relatives there). Further out in the bush, you risk terrible fires that race so fast, people could not out run them in cars...and died in them. Other then the fires, South Australia has the best weather in all of Australia. They don't have the intense humidity of other Australian cities. Sydney basks in the upper 90's but has humidity. Its high summer in Australia and in the south, the season for fires. People know that and live with it.

All true, but not much comfort to those who are in peril right now, with the death toll already topping a hundred and hospitals running out of resources.

My heart totally goes out to all the people in South Australia/Victoria.

This past summer in the US, my mom and stepdad lived close enough to the LA fires that they said they could see the smoke and smell it. I hate how helpless wildfires make people feel... and how worrisome it is to not be able to do anything except keep watching the weather channel and hope that things are going to start slowing down.

The worst of it is that some of these fires seem to have been started deliberately.

We occasionally get smoke around here (like on Saturday), but are fortunate to be in a very safe place as far as bushfires go.
