I'm thinking of those of you who are down South Australia and Victoria way. The news just gets progressively more horrifying. I hope nobody's been personally affected, but please, stay safe and hydrated and out of the way of fires, all of you.
After all the extreme weather warnings, things were quite bearable here this weekend. Well, once we got through the wedding reception in 38-degree heat with no air-conditioning. Yesterday was a sunny 28 or so, maybe creeping over 30 in the afternoon. Then I was told by a friend in Western Sydney (about 20 miles inland from here) that it'd been 41 degrees where he was.
This is why I live on the coast, oh, yes.
ETA: A
BBC update on the situation in Victoria. Current death toll: at least 108. Apparently hospitals are running out of morphine to treat burn victims.
ETA 2: See
The Age for more coverage of the fires, and donate to the Red Cross
Victorian Bushfires Appeal if you wish. Thanks to
