[nanomadness] The Naming Problem

Oct 12, 2010 01:44

At the rate I'm going, my f-list is going to be tired of hearing about NaNo before November begins.

The 100 Questions questionnaire is being slowly filled out (I think I'm up to 27.  Stuck on first memory). Gwen is a ridiculous character, and I mean that in the best way possible ("I want a pony"). Her voice is developing nicely, and a general plot is beginning to emerge. The problem is I'd figured this would be a YA novel (like The Younger Adventures of The Dresden Files), except now that I've figured out what kind of supernatural she is, that's looking a little unlikely.

Baby eating Lamia aren't exactly the stuff of YA dreams, you know?

Current cast of characters:
Gwendolyn Elizabeth Rutherford (Gwen) - Protag
Thomas Anthony Rutherford - Dad
Jessica Richardson Rutherford (Jess) - Mom

Lily - Best Friend
Kendrick & Vivienne - Lily's parents (rename possible)

Julian - Other Best Friend
Selene - Julian's girlfriend

Livia - Villain

Now if everyone besides Gwen's family could have last names I would be real happy. If anyone want to suggest last names, I am all for it. The only requirement I have is that Lily's family name starts with a D.

Oh, and there is a tentative title. For now, it's Gathering Storm, which sounds a hell of a lot better than That Baby Eater Thing. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have most of the questionnaire filled out, and a synopsis. I'm actually getting excited for Nano this year. Who'd have thought.

On the RP front, apps are open. That means these two awesome awesome threads will probably slow or wrap soon. I have an inexplicable love for Thomas/Elaine threads. I think it's because she's someone who actually knows what Thomas is, and who isn't going to take his shenanigans. And with the possibility of electroshock therapy. The fact that Thomas and Elaine look to be on their way to developing some actual weird friendship is also cool.

gathering storm, nanowrimo
