An update... a -real- update
So it looks like people actually still use this thing after all! Whaddya know, and here i thought it'd gone the way of flip phones and vcl by now.
Anyway.. So yeah, time for an obligatory ‘life update’, since it’s been oh so terribly long. For reasons about to be described, though, I think I’m going to find myself with a bit more freetime on my hand, and I’m hoping that means that I’ll be better able to keep up with things here on FA from here on out. So, since it’s been so long, I just wanted to make a quick ‘personal’ update. More lighthearted shit will inevitably follow.
1) First, I’m single again. I don’t want to dwell on this too much, but basically, my former mate left me earlier this week so he could go back to being with his ex. Though I’d be lying if I said this didn’t hurt, in a way, it seems almost for the best, since I was part of what came between them in the first place… I guess this is just life’s way of getting back to an equilibrium. And the two of them are, and will be, very good together, I can’t deny that… his ex is probably a much better fit for him than I am. I still wish the two of them the best.
It’s going to be difficult to adjust over the next little while, but fortunately, I’ve never had a problem keeping myself busy or distracted. This means that I’ll probably be online a bit more often now, and finally able to catch up on some video games and other personal projects that I haven’t been able to get around to. For anyone out there that might assume that I’m single and looking, however, please don’t. The last thing I’m looking to do is get back into something serious. Not to be a dick or anything, but I know there’s a few people who might assume that I’m free right now and try and take advantage of that opportunity. Please try and be sensitive to my situation and refrain from doing so.
2) The new job is going okay. I’m making decent enough money, but now that I have to pay back student loans to the tune of 400 a month, I still can’t afford to get out on my own, and there aren’t really a lot of ‘roommate’ possibilities for me here in Utah. After working it for nearly a third of a year, however, I’ve come to the overwhelming conclusion that this job isn’t what I want to do with my life. It’s really is a nice job, and part of me thinks I’m insane for wanting to give it up, but… well, I have the blessing and the curse of having an all consuming passion for lions, and I don’t think I’ll be content with myself until I’m working with them. Consequently, I’m looking to go back to graduate school to get my Ph.D. The lion conservation group I was working with before is very interested in sponsoring me while I complete a Ph.D there, and we’re discussing a wide gambit of possible project ideas for me to work on. The real hitch is going to be finding an institution and an advisor here in the states willing to take and fund me, however. I have a few good leads, and I’m confident that I’ll find the right opportunity sooner or later, but so far a few of my top choices haven’t panned out. What exactly I’ll be doing, and where I’ll be going, is still up in the air, but I’m confident that pursuing this opportunity will help me get my life back on track. I have a lot of regrets about not taking that opportunity in Africa last year, and now that I’ve had 2/3 of a year to look back on that decision, I can’t help but kick myself for my fear and selfishness, especially given everything that’s happened on a personal level since then. Live and learn, right? I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the right opportunity will come my
way, and I can get going back down that road again.
3) On a lighter note, FWA is looking more promising, and I’ve got all my stuff identified and scoped out for my new costume! It’s gonna be awesome to go hang out in a new region of the country and meet some of the southern furs for a change. Not to mention I’m thrilled as hell to see what Atlanta is gonna think of my costume; reactions in San Jose and Pittsburgh were pretty priceless, but we all know that the south is a whole new ballpark. It should be exciting :D
