New House Plan

Sep 10, 2008 09:24

When I moved to MA, the plan was simple: buy a house at some point. Sooner was better than later and with aliwings and head58 was better than without.

Between the crappy housing market putting the kaibosh on part of the plan and the rest of the "plan" driving me a little nuts, I decided to come up with an actual, though still quite flexible, plan.

Since emilytheslayer graduates in the spring and will then be looking for a job, it doesn't make a ton of sense to move before she gets a job. Not that the job's location will be the largest determnier in where we move, but it would be nice to know before we go.

After that we'll likely move to a larger apartment with Washing Machine, Dishwasher and perhaps Central Air. Certainly the Larger aspect is important. I think I'd prefer something townhouse-like rather than another garden apartment.

We'll also look at foreclosed houses at the same time and if we find something good and inexpensive, we'll buy that. As I don't think this is likely, we'll go the renting route.

If we end up renting, I figure we'll rent for a few years while I continue to save and pay off debt. My car and personal loan are all paid off in 2011. My credit card debt shouldn't last much longer than that. If we do wait to 2011 or 2012 I might even be able to put together a decent down payment.

And if the market gets better, I'd still love to get a 2 family with the aforemetnioned aliwings and head58.

So still flexible, but not as urgent and a little more coherant. This should quiet my anxieties nicely.
