I bet the air in my mouth tastes better than that.

Chapter four of Lunargyros started this last Tuesday! Bit of a two-month jump between the previous chapter and this one, but there's a reason for that. The reason being that the November and December months would've just been filler, and who wants that? :P

While I didn't get much done yesterday, I did go see the NEEEW X-FILES MOVIE with Rei and Em! And, well...well yeah. If you haven't known me longer than a year or two,

Understand, X-Files was my first huge fandom; the first fandom I really shared with people. Sure, when I was a kid I obsessed over Gargoyles and Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, but X-Files was the fandom wherein I discovered fanfiction, and fanart, collages, AMVs, fansites, and a frecking multitude of online activities to enjoy my show with. I wrote tons of fanfic and obsessed in all the most hardcore, fangirly ways possible.

And on top of that, I wasn't even as heavily involved in the fandom as some people were. Understand, The X-Files fandom is basically the grandfather of internet fandom as it exists today. I know fandoms like Star Wars and Star Trek existed long before then, but those fandoms were of a different animal. X-Files essentially launched the phenomenon of fandom on the INTERNET. The term "shipper" and the phrase "I ship it/ship them" was born from X-Files. X-Files created the idea of BNFs...TRUE BNFs. The term BNF is thrown around a lot nowadays, but in my opinion, the last BNFs as the name really applies were Cassie Claire and MsScribe of Harry Potter (unfortunately). X-Files had a handful of true BNFs, in that everyone, and I mean really everyone, knew who these authors were. No seriously, I had never even seen/met these authors and I still thought they were the coolest things ever, because EVERYone said so. There's a Mulder and Scully icon I used to have that said "My Fandom 'invented' wank," and it's pretty much true.

Regardless, this was a fandom I wrote TONS for. I speculated, I drew comics for it. I created fansites for it, back in the days when there was no LiveJournal, and you used things like GEOCITIES and ANGELFIRE to get your fan on...self-made sites! I didn't get into the show until late into it (about the sixth season) but Rei and I literally spent ALL SUMMER watching and taping the previous five seasons so that we could catch up on the mythology. It was a show that Rei and I bonded over together when I first moved here, and she had moved here not too long before. I have unbelievably fond memories of this show, its characters, and their dynamic. You could say that X-Files was a big part of what got me through high school. I was, and will in some ways always be, an X-Phile at heart.

That said?

I was SO. DISAPPOINTED. in this latest X-Files movie. I went in with very few expectations...I knew that it would be a stand-alone, and not part of the long mytharc like the first XF movie was. I knew it would take place a few years after the finale, and despite my grumblings, would not resolve anything with William. I was prepared for that much.

I was not prepared for the SUCK. I felt like I was watching a really loooong episode. And even if it was just an episode in the series and not a movie, I WOULDN'T HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD EPISODE. No wonder they showed next to nothing in the trailer...there was nothing to show from the movie! I mean in the past, Mulder and Scully have gone up against aliens, vampires, huge government conglomerates, killer bees with an alien virus, werewolves, mutants, poltergeists, flukemen from the toilet, intelligent supercomputers, and lake monsters. So what are they going up against in this movie?

ORGAN TRAFFICKERS. OOOooooOOOOOoooooOOOOHHH. Oh, and two-headed dogs, oh nooooes.

I mean geez, if you're going to go with a stand-alone movie, AT LEAST PICK SOMETHING MORE SUPERNATURAL THAN A RUSSIAN WANNABE DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN. I can name five XF villains from one season off the top of my head that were more awesome than whoeverthehell the villain was in this movie. Also, as far as psychics go, Clyde Bruckman >>>>>> Father John the Pedophile Priest. Father John just bled from the eyes. Clyde Bruckman made STEPPING ON A PIE scary.

But see, even a dull Monster Of the Week can be made awesome by your Mulder/Scully banter. But there wasn't even enough of that there. Yes, I know it takes place after the finale and their relationship is way different now and they've been through so much blah blah blah. But instead of banter, I just got a whole lot of them arguing in circles about no I can't/yes I can/no I can't/yes I can. It was fine once, but over and over?! Come on you two, make up your friggin' minds about SOMEthing or other! And make it BANTER, not DepressingConversation! Seriously, this was Mulder and Scully banter in the series:

Mulder: :3
Scully: :/

And then this was it in this movie:

Mulder: :(
Scully: :(

Yes, there were moments that made me happy. A few of the little in-jokes, like pencils in the ceiling, Mulder's sunflower seeds, and some of the lines made me crack up. Skinner showing up towards the end filled me with happy squees. And of course there were some cute snuggly moments between the two of them to appease my inner shipper. Scully kicking the villain's ass when Mulder was in trouble is always awesome (if not expected). I'm glad they at least mentioned William, if not in passing. Also, I'd really like an MP3 of that theme song remix during the ending credits. Anyone got that?

But yeah, it was far too little, too late. Maybe I'm just viewing my old fandom with rose-tinted glasses and yammering about the good old days and these darn kids on my lawn. But if this was the movie the fans were supposed to have been waiting for since the show ended? Then Chris Carter just needs to go back to surfing or something AND STOP MAKING CRAPPY MOVIES WITH TERRIBLE WRITING. Why, Chris Cater. Why you do this to my favorite old series and favorite characters.

Oh also, there were some stupid jackass kids in the front row who wouldn't shut the hell up during lots of the movie. Maybe if we're lucky Tooms will come into their houses tonight and eat their livers.

Guesssss I'm off to school now to work on Digital Sets homework. 8/ I still haven't seen TDK.
