I got up this morning around 8am. I broke my rule of getting ready for the day before going downstairs because I really wasn't planning on going anywhere. It ended up working out for me though because I got bit by the productive bug and swapped out the monitors on my desktop.
At first I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make the flat panel monitor work. I had told Tom that I had all the cables I needed but I failed to remember that my CRT is old enough that the monitor cable is attached. So after mulling over the idea of having to buy VGA cables I checked the front room to see what I had stashed with my other CPUs. Low and behold I have two DVI cables.
At first I didn't think that was going to work either but found that both the monitor and the CPU have ports for it. I was still uncertain when the monitor didn't work on the first try. But I rebooted the computer and it came up just fine. ^_^
Then I had to perform the task of actually removing the CRT. It's a heavy beast of a 19” monitor. Better yet the desk behind it was a haven of dust and I found out just how much dust one of those micro fiber cloths will actually hold. I ended up using two to clean the entire area. O_o This is also where it was a good thing that I didn't shower before doing this work. I was covered in dust by the time I was done and would have taken a second shower on principle.
Because the new monitor is smaller in area size I was also able to put the shelf back up that goes over the monitor. Now I can keep stuff displayed there again. :)
I was slightly disappointed that the new monitor has less resolution than the old one but I am by no means complaining because it works and it works better than the CRT in many ways. I am finally going to be able to get back to drawing on this computer!! ^_^ So thanks again to Tom for donating his old flat panel to me. I am very grateful! :D
As for the rest of the day I took grandma out to lunch at Stuffy's and then to market place. Once we got home the kids and I watched 17 again and later I took Danielle home. So it was a little of both (productive and lazy) for the day. :)
