Today I decided to spend part of my day throwing out old stuff from two offices that have been abandoned for years now. I have been in charge of cleaning them for a while and while I got the rooms mostly clean, the garbage has stacked up. Most of it is binders and the like. Old stuff that just needs to be tossed out.
So I got the bright idea to move the large trash bin lined up with the top step of the outside stairs to said offices. The result is that with the door tied open I could just toss all this tuff out, down into the garbage and get it done with. The catch is that the outside stairs (as with all outside stairs where I work) are metal grating. This means that when I step outside the door on the top floor it feels like I am stepping out onto thin air. It messes with my sense of balance… I am a little acrophobic. -_-
I knew this was going to be a bad idea but decided that I could handle the heights because I wouldn't be going up or down the stairs just out the door and back in. I am sure anyone watching me would have thought I was nuts because for an hour I carefully stepped out on the stairs, grabbed the handrail, tossed the binder (one at a time…sometimes two) into the garbage and then cautiously backed up into the building.
To add to my woes the a/c was malfunctioning upstairs in the building. All the thermostats read 70/66 but the system was pumping out hot air (some registers even said heat). I had the window open and the door open so that helped but every time I walked under a vent it was like getting a blast of hot air in the face while working hard. _~_
By the time I was done I had filled the small dumpster and my nerves were shot but I did it. I am very proud that I got through everything I had to throw away today. ^_^ There is still more to do but I am done with tossing garbage for now.
