Anyway, my name is Enming Luo (WHS c/o 2003). I go to Warren and I'll be living on campus next year.
ERC does have a reputation of having one of the hardest GEs if not the hardest. Tough luck there. However, they do have the newest dorms on campus. You would be only the second class to use them.
I never used OASIS, even during fall quarter when I wasn't doing so well. I believe my fall quarter GPA was 2.43, which was a lot lower than anything I got in high school. However, I'm blaming that on not not being completely adjusted to life down there. My GPA went up winter quarter and spring quarter. My cumulative GPA is now 3.06 and I anticipate it going up. I guess the reason why I didn't use OASIS was because I was too lazy. Plus, I realized that a lot of other people were in the same boat. I had heard that the average GPA for freshmen during their first quarter was around 2.7. I had confidence in myself that I could do better in class so I didn't think OASIS was all that necessary. In short, I don't know much about OASIS. Don't worry if your GPA takes a nosedive first quarter...it happens to a lot of people and most people recover from it the next quarter.
The food thing... A lot of people learned to get very creative with their microwaves...and george foreman grills too. I never had this problem because I lived in an on-campus apartment. I had a complete kitchen at my disposal. I don't know if ERC lets first-year people live in the apartments, but us Warren people had the option of having a kitchen and non-community bathrooms. A lot of times, I'd bring back food from home in tubaware. I'd also eat out a lot. In the end though, the $1800 lasted the whole year because I had a kitchen.
If you need some help down there in September, leave a comment in one of my LJ entries or something. I think I have some contact information on my user info too. I just got a job as a UCSD shuttle driver so look for me on the bus next year.
oh yeah, i remember you. anyway, I'm sure you've been told this already but I'll just say it again: the quarter system goes by awfully fast. It'll be the first day of school and the next thing you know, it's midterm time and then finals. And another thing, your GPA doesn't necessarily have to go down. Some people have managed to keep it on par with their high school GPAs. Just remember, there is no such thing as a weighted GPA in college so even if you got all "A"s, you wouldn't have anything above 4.0.
Revelle's food is mediocre I think. The only campus dinning hall that truly sucks beyond the rest is Sixth College's "Food Works".
