The State Surveyors showed up last Monday morning at 9am. Panic ensued. Then everything quieted down and we got back to an almost normal workday -- with surveyors watching like hawks. I worked til 8pm and returned at 6am Tuesday. Tuesday was the major day. Didn't get out of the building until after 8pm, ran home, sold the old kitchen table set, delivered it in two trips to a young couple on the other side of Cordova then hit the airport by 10:15pm to retrieve Karen and Allan after their trip to Seattle. I was in bed by midnight and back at work at 6am. Thankfully the surveyors exited by 2pm Wednesday -- gave us a quick rundown of what they found and I was out of their by 4pm.
The facility got 9 tags -- 2 for the kitchen, 1 for Medical Records, 2 for the MDS team of nurses (federal paperwork stuff) and a mere 4 tags for nursing! All the tags were D or E level -- the lowest level there is since A&B tags aren't written. In a building the size of ours -- 4 tags are nothing! We proved to the State what a good job we do taking care of our patients! There were no deficiencies to the main systems: Falls/Restraints, Psychotropic drugs, Wounds, Quality Assurance!!! Those are the systems I'm in charge of, that I slave over daily. In fact, the Surveyors mentioned what a good job we've done on the major systems -- they were impressed! Thank you, Jesus!!!
Thursday was pretty much a washout. Nothing got done by the management team, in fact, my boss didn't even show up. That pretty much left me in charge of every damn thing and being totally in charge means I got nothing done but I did put out several messy fires. Then I hauled my butt out of there by 4pm and went shopping and got my nails done.
Friday was back to normal, the boss showed up and I got to do my own work, but then I left again at 4pm and came home and died. I took a short nap then hit the glitz and glamour to go to the company Christmas party.
The Christmas party was the same as last year -- a black "club DJ" that played music that none of us older white folks had ever heard. In the two hours I was there I recognized 3 songs. The black girls danced with each other and put on a show. There were body parts moving that I didn't know could move -- at least not standing up. There were clothes that barely covered important parts -- I cleared the decorations off a table near the dance floor so that if a random boob or ass popped out I could snatch the tablecloth to cover the nakedness.
Memphis is the home base of the COGIC (Church of God in Christ) annual conference. The clothes the black church ladies wear are infamous and the hats are just down right amazing. COGIC is all about the hats. But "clubbing" which really translates to dancing, is all about the shoes. The majority of ladies had on 5 inch stiletto heels or boots. The boots were outrageous -- over the knee for some, fur covered for others, red leather, white leather, purple leather, black leather with chains. The shoes were silver, gold or clear -- glass like -- with all manner of embellishment. If I'd had a good camera with me, I'd have only taken pictures of the shoes.
I was way too tired. I think most of us were. I ate, had a couple of drinks then ducked out after 2 hours. I met my boss on the elevator -- thought I was busted for leaving early, but no, she was leaving early, too. The week's stress and extra effort was weighing on everyone.
So after the week at work, Saturday was totally non-productive for me. I could only rest. I got up from one nap watching the clock to see when I could go back to bed for another nap. I got in 2 good long naps yesterday and now I'm almost human again.
I'm about to make a Walmart run for food -- I'm even out of Diet Dr. Pepper -- a major sin in my book. And Lacey is demanding that we hit the flea market. Then we'll decorate for Christmas. Yes, I'm a week late on getting my tree up but oh well, what can I say? I work, I can't decorate and do like I once did, or like I'd prefer to do. I can only do what I can when I can. So today starts the Christmas season for us. I'll do all I can. Pictures will come when they come.
